MIKHA'S POV
I checked my watch while waiting for the light to turn off in Aiah's bedroom.
It's already eleven o'clock, but she’s still awake, she’s probably doing schoolwork again.
I've been here at the back of their mansion, hiding behind the fence while wearing my black outfit.
I don't know what I'm doing here, but I need to feel Aiah's presence because if not, I will lose all my sanity.
It’s a struggle to act like I don’t care about her.
It's exhausting to pretend her smile doesn’t affect me.
It feels impossible to maintain this cold facade around her.
And it’s even harder to restrain myself from saying, “I love you” in return.
I miss her.
I miss being around her—the way she makes me forget my responsibilities whenever we’re together.
But before I can act on my feelings, my parents pull me aside for a serious talk.
“We’re not restricting you from experiencing those kinds of things, Mikhaela.”
You do.
“Pero hindi pa kayo ganon katagal nagkakilala. It’s not even a year, so how could you say that it’s really love?”
It’s my feelings, I know what I feel.
"Hindi pwedeng padalos dalos ka, we're talking about someone's safety here."
“Anak, you have a res—.” My mom steps closer and touches my shoulder, but I flinch away.
“Fuck that responsibility, Mom! Can’t I just live a normal life?!” I snapped.
“Your tone, Mikh—” My dad interjects, but I don’t let him finish.
“Fuck my tone.”
“I’m so sick of it all, Dad. I’m so sick of you telling me what to do. I’m so sick of you deciding for me. I’m so sick of this restriction because of this stupid responsibility.”
“Just for once, pag bigyan n'yo naman ako without expecting anything in return.”
“I love her!”
“And I know that! I’m not dumb enough to be unaware of my own feelings!”
"Kung mahal mo siya, iisipin mo ang kaligtasan niya!" my father snapped.
"We’re in the middle of a war, Mikha! You know how fucking greedy and envious people think." he added, his voice filled with frustration.
"Hindi mo ba naiisip na pwedeng gamitin si Aiah para pabagsakin ka? pabagsakin ang pamilya natin?" He leaned back in his swivel chair, looking tired yet determined.
"Anong silbi ng mga tauhan n'yo? pwede naman natin siyang pabantayan sa mga tauhan n'yo, di ba?" I fired back, anger rising after hearing what felt like another lame excuse.
"We’ve already hired people to look out for your friends... for Aiah." my mother said softly.
"But..." she hesitated.
