He's scared 'cause I want

It was time for Foo Fighters to record their first live album. Dave was bumbling with excitement, and he hardly could believe that his band went this far. They already sang a few songs, and the crowd was loving it. But now it’s time for Dave to perform a song that he knows the audience isn’t expecting.

“You may know this song.” Dave started. “It’s Marigold.”

Marigold is a Nirvana song, but technically it isn’t. Dave sang and performed it all of himself before. He, Krist, and Kurt just went over his first recording of the song and edited it to turn it into one of Nirvana’s B-sides. Kurt wasn’t even in the room when they filmed it.

Yet, it still reminds Dave of his dead friend, and he knows that it’s going to be hard for him to do this. It’s going to be hard for Pat Smear too, who was brought here for the special event. But they are just going to have to do this.

Taking a deep breath, Dave began to sing.

“He's there in case I wandered off

He's scared because I warned

He's scared in case I want it all

He's scared 'cause I want

All in all, the clock is slow

Six color pictures all in a row

Of a marigold.”

After Dave finished singing, a single tear dripped down his face. He was struggling so much not to cry, and Pat noticed this. He walked over to Dave and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulders.

“Are you okay?” Pat asked. “Are you thinking about… Him?”

All Dave could do was simply nod his head before the waterworks started. He didn’t want to cry in front of his fans like this, but he couldn’t help himself. Even though it’s been years since Kurt Cobain’s death, Dave misses him so much.

Pat walked over to Dave and wrapped his arms tightly around him. Dave hugged Pat back and leaned into his chest, wiping away his tears onto his shirt. He misses Pat too. He wishes that he never left the band. He knows that Pat wants in again but there’s just too many members, and Dave can’t kick anybody out. At least Pat is still alive…

The crowd stopped cheering and whispered to each other. The silence made anxiety pulse throughout Dave. Did his fans think he was a wussy for crying on stage?

However, his fans soon started to scream Dave’s name and how much they loved him. Dave finally stopped crying, and he gently nudged Pat away. He then faced his fans.

“T-That was Marigold…” He muttered, forcing away his stutter. “May we have a moment of silence for Kurt Cobain’s memory.”

To his surprise, not a single person in the audience spoke. They remained silent as Dave stared down at them. Even if Kurt Cobain is dead and Nirvana is no more, Dave is going to keep Foo Fighters alive in Kurt’s memory.
