Nothing at all

“Hey, Kurt, are you okay?”

Dave and Kurt were getting ready for a show in the back while they waited for Krist to arrive. Dave felt a little awkward being left alone with Kurt. He can’t help but remember and yearn for the old days where he, Kurt and Krist used to goof around and have fun. But it hasn’t been like that in a while.

Kurt is addicted to heroin. Pretty much everybody knows that. Even his fans. Dave wants to do something to help him but he doesn’t know what he could possibly do. He isn’t as close to Kurt as Krist is and recently the two of them have been drifting apart even more.

It sucks but Dave has just given up. However, Kurt looks half dead right now. He’s sitting down with his head dangling downwards and he keeps dozing off and on. His face is dark and his eyes are bloodshot. Whenever he is awake, he looks spaced out of his mind.

When Kurt didn’t reply, Dave didn’t know what to do. He spoke again but didn’t get a response. Sighing, Dave just shoved Kurt. He figured that touching him while he was high out of his mind wouldn’t be smart but Dave couldn’t help but be scared that Kurt may be dead.

As soon as Dave touched him, Kurt instantly jolted and turned to look at his band member. His eyes narrowed and he let out a grunt.

“What do you want?” He asked. “Is the stupid show starting?”

“The show isn’t starting yet.” Dave told him. Before he could speak, Kurt spoke up again.

“Then leave me alone. I don’t want to talk to you.”

Dave knew that the smart thing to do would just be to leave Kurt alone so that he has some time to cool down but at the same time Dave just couldn’t push his concern away so he decided to say something.

“I need to talk to you.” Dave argued. “You don’t look good right now. You look like you're going to pass out or die from a drug overdose. What did you take?”

“I’m fine! What I take is none of your concern.” Kurt snapped. “You don’t have the right to talk to me.”

“I do have the right to talk to you.” Dave sighed, getting annoyed. “I’m in your band for fuck’s sake! And I’m your friend.”

“I don’t know why you think you have the right to talk to me.” Kurt snapped. “Just because you are in my band doesn't mean anything! I could fire you. I could fire Krist! You don’t

“I’m talking to you because I care about you, you jerk.” Dave replied. “If I didn’t care, would I be so concerned about you? You can fire me all you want but that still won’t change the fact that I care about you. Even if you are an asshole.”

“I’m an asshole?” Kurt laughed. “You must not have been around the people I have. I've been around actual horrible people. People who beat me, raped me and hurt me far more than you have. You went through nothing! Nothing at all compared to me.”

Dave felt rage build up in his stomach. He used all of his self control to force it away. He was tempted to go off at Kurt but he knew that would only make the situation worse and wouldn’t solve anything. He wondered what he could say that wouldn’t upset Kurt, though.

“I know that you went through a lot of trauma but that doesn’t mean I went through nothing.” Dave said carefully, making sure that he didn’t say anything that offended Kurt. “I went through stuff

just like you. Maybe not the exact same things but still things nonetheless. Everybody has. I want to help you, Kurt. I hate seeing you suffer like this and Krist does too.”
For a second, it was like Kurt realized what was going on and was going to apologize. Dave got his hopes up but last second Kurt destroyed them all.

“Yeah right. You're a kid. You haven’t been in this band from the start. You have no idea what we had to do to get where we are. If you had even a shred of what me and this band had gone through, then you would be addicted to herion too.” Kurt argued.

"No, I wouldn’t be! I understand you have an addiction but that doesn’t mean you can treat me like a child. I’m an adult and I have struggles too. Acting like this isn’t going to get you out of your shitty mindset. Only manning up and agreeing to accept help will.”

Dave didn’t mean to snap at Kurt but he just couldn’t hold his feelings in any longer. Seeing his beloved friend and band member like this is tearing him apart.

“I’m not going to talk to you any longer.” Kurt grumbled. “You don’t understand anything about me!”

Just as the band leader spoke, he padded away, getting as far from Dave as possible. Dave kicked an empty can on the floor before sighing and sitting down. He wants to understand Kurt. He really does. He used to be so close with him. He used to live with him.

But ever since Kurt has been getting more addicted to heroin, he has completely changed. All Dave can hope for is that Kurt will realize his mistakes and he will soon get help.
