They found themselves sitting side by side on a wooden bench in the quiet park, the soft rustling of leaves filling the silence between them. The world seemed peaceful, yet there was a heaviness in the air, the kind that comes when two people with a shared history sit together, unsure of what to say.
Jungkook was the first to break the silence. He turned slightly toward Jimin, his voice hesitant yet genuine.
“How are you, Jimin?”
Jimin glanced at him, his eyes briefly meeting Jungkook’s before looking away, down at his hands. “I’m… fine,” he said quietly. “Busy with the shop, you know.”
Jungkook nodded slowly, as if absorbing every word. "That's good. I’m glad you're doing okay."
Another pause hung between them, the weight of unsaid things lingering. Jungkook shifted in his seat, his eyes softening as he spoke again. "How was your day today?"
Jimin sighed softly, unsure of how to answer. His day, like many others recently, had been quiet. He hadn't realized how much he missed conversations like these—simple, casual check-ins, the way they used to talk before everything became complicated.
“It was alright,” Jimin replied, his voice distant. “Just the usual—flowers, customers… nothing special.”
Jungkook hummed, letting the silence stretch for a moment before he gathered the courage to ask more. “And… anything else? Anything you’ve been doing lately?”
Jimin shook his head slightly. “Not really,” he murmured. “Just keeping busy. It’s easier that way.”
There was a subtle sadness in his voice that didn’t go unnoticed by Jungkook. He wanted to say something comforting, something to bridge the gap between them, but the words felt stuck in his throat.
Jungkook looked down at his hands, the flowers resting on his lap. "I know things have been hard for both of us… but I’ve been thinking about you a lot, Jimin."
Jimin’s breath hitched slightly at Jungkook’s words. He didn’t know where this conversation was headed, but hearing Jungkook say that made something stir in his chest.
“I’ve missed you,” Jungkook continued, his voice barely above a whisper. “Not just being around you, but… everything about us.”
Jimin stayed quiet, unsure of how to respond. His mind was racing with memories and emotions he thought he had buried. He didn’t know what to say—didn’t know if he could open up like that again.
Sensing Jimin’s hesitation, Jungkook’s expression grew more pained, his voice catching in his throat. He could feel the distance between them, not just physically but emotionally, and it hurt him deeply. The memories of the accident, the hospital, and the lack of Jimin’s presence during those vulnerable days weighed heavily on him.
Jungkook took a shaky breath before speaking again, his voice trembling with the weight of unspoken emotions.
“Jimin-ah… did you hate me?” His words were soft but filled with raw hurt, his eyes searching Jimin’s face for an answer. "Did I mean nothing to you?"
Jimin blinked in surprise, his heart clenching at the pain evident in Jungkook’s voice. He opened his mouth to respond, but Jungkook wasn’t done. The floodgates of emotions had opened, and the words poured out.
“When I was in that hospital, I… I kept waiting, Jimin. I waited for you,” Jungkook said, his voice cracking. “I thought maybe… maybe you’d come, and you did came but not even a minute, you leave.”
Jungkook’s voice dropped to a whisper, his eyes glossy with unshed tears. “I thought I meant something to you, Jimin. I thought that… no matter what happened between us, you’d still care. But you didn’t even try to reach me. Not once.”
Jimin felt his chest tighten painfully, guilt and confusion swirling inside him. He had thought about Jungkook every single day, but he had convinced himself that he was no longer a part of Jungkook’s life. After all, he had been the one to ask for the divorce, to push Jungkook away for the sake of giving him a future he thought he deserved.
“Jungkook…” Jimin whispered, his throat tight as emotions swirled inside him. “I didn’t… I didn’t know what to do.”
Jungkook’s eyes softened, but the pain was still there, lingering. “Did I really mean so little to you, Jimin-ah? Was it so easy to let me go, to walk away without even looking back? Because it wasn’t for me. It’s still not.”
Jimin felt the weight of Jungkook’s words settle on his chest like a heavy stone, suffocating him with the realization of how deeply he had hurt Jungkook by walking away without a second glance.
“I didn’t hate you, Jungkook,” Jimin said softly, his voice shaking. “I could never hate you. I just…I thought you’d be better off without me. I thought you deserved more than what I could give.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened in disbelief. “More? Jimin, you were everything to me. You still are.”
Jimin’s breath hitched, emotions overwhelming him as the truth of their past, and present, hung in the air between them, waiting to be acknowledged.
