Jammu and Kashmir, often celebrated for its mesmerizing beauty and tranquil landscapes, holds within its darker, more mysterious side. The state is home to several eerie places, wrapped in legends and folklore, that intrigue both locals and visitors. Here's a list of haunted locations in the region that combine adventure with a dash of the paranormal.

1. The Haunted Gurez Valley

Gurez Valley, known for its stunning landscapes, is rumored to be haunted by the spirits of soldiers who lost their lives during wars in the region. The valley's isolation and history adds it to the eerie atmosphere. People have reported hearing strange noises, like footsteps and whispering voices, especially during the night. Some have felt an eerie presence while trekking through the hallway, leaving them with chills.

2. Khooni Nala (Bloody Stream), Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Khooni Nala on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in infamous for its tragic accidents, many of which are shrouded in mystery. Locals believe the spot is cursed,  and the souls of those who died in these accidents haunt the area. Drivers Passing through have reported seeing mysterious figures on the road at night, only  for them to disappear as they get closer. Some also hear voices or feel an unexplainable cold sensation in their vehicles. 

3. The Kunan Poshpora Village, Kupwara

This village has a dark history, and its haunted reputation stems for the tragic events that took place here. It is believed that the restless souls of those who face injustice still linger in the village. Locals claim to hear ghostly wails and whispers during the night. The village is often avoided after sunset due to the unsettling feeling of being watched or followed by unseen forces.

4. The Ghost Of Shankaracharya Temple, Srinagar

Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar is not just spiritual site but is also believed  to be haunted by the spirits of ancient monks. These monks, it is said, st ill roam the temple grounds, Protecting the sanctity of the place. Visitors have reported strange sightings, like shadowy figures walking through the temple complex late at night. Some have felt an invisible presence around them, while other have heard chants echoing through the temple, even when no one else is around.

5. The Haunted Residences Of Kashmir University, Srinagar

Several hostels and staff quarter in Kashmir University are said to be haunted by the spirits of the students and professors who met untimely death. Their Souls are believed to be trapped within the university premises. Students have shared stories of hearing footsteps in empty hallways, seeing lights flicker, and encountering ghostly figures in the dormitories late at night. Some even say They've heard the soft murmurs of conservations in empty rooms.

6. The Ghosts Of Pari Mahal, Srinagar

Pari Mahal also known as the "Palace Of Fairies," Is a historical structure with a haunting reputation. The palace is said to be haunted by spirits, including that of Dara Shikoh, a Mughal prince who once lived there. Visitors have reported seeing strange lights inside the abandoned Palace, hearing whispers carried by the wind, and feeling a cold, ghostly presence while exploring its ruined corridors.

7. The Haunted Cemetery At Sheikh Bagh, Srinagar

The British- era cemetery at Sheikh Bagh in Srinagar is said to be haunted by the spirits of those buried there. Locals believe that some of these souls were not at Peace when they passed away, leading to eerie sightings. People visiting the cemetery have reported hearing  voices call out to them, seeing ghostly figures walking between the gravestones, and feeling a Heavy presence around them especially in the evening.
