However, beneath its tranquil surface lies a darker, more mysterious side—a realm where the supernatural reigns and spirits wander. From ancient temples with eerie legends to abandoned bungalows shrouded in mystery, Kerala is home to some of the most haunted places in India.

1. Lakkidi gateway, Wayanad

Lakkidi is often considered one of the most haunted places in India due to the story of a tribal man who was hanged here by the British. Locals believe that his spirit still haunts the gateway, especially during the night.

2. Bonacud Bungalow, Thiruvanthapuram

Also Known as "British bungalow," this abandoned house is said to be haunted by spirits of children who died under mysterious circumstances . Visitors often report hearing eerie laughter and seeing ghostly apparitions.

3. Trichur forest, Thrissur 

The dense forest of Trichur is said to be haunted by the spirits of those who were killed there in past. It is believed that these spirits wander the forest, making it a spooky place, especially after dark.

4. Kariavattom, Thiruvanthapuram

This area is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a woman who died in a tragic death. Locals claim to have seen her apparition wandering in the streets at night, especially near the university campus.

5. Perandoor Canal, Kochi

The canal is infamous for ghost sightings, particularly that of a young girl who is said to have drowned here. The locals believe that her spirit still haunts the waters, and many have reported hearing her cries at night.

6. The Haunted House At Palakkad

This abandoned house in Palakkad is said to be haunted by the spirits of its former occupants, who died under tragic circumstances. The house is known for strange occurrences , such as unexplained sounds and objects moving on their own.

7. The Ghost Of The Old Mangala Theatre, Thrissur

This old theatre is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a man who died during movie screening. Many locals claim to have seen his ghost sitting in the empty theatre, especially late at night.

8. Mattancherry Palace, Kochi

While the palace itself is a historical sight, it is also rumored to be haunted by the sprits of the former rulers. Visitors have reported hearing strange noises and seeing shadow figures in the corridors.

9. Munnar Tea Estates

The sprawling tea estates of Munnar are not just known for their scenic beauty but also for eerie sightings. Some workers believe that the spirits of laborers who died while working in harsh conditions haunt the estates.

10.  Valliyathuparambu Temple, Alappuzha

This ancient temple is said to be haunted by the spirit of a Brahmin Priest who was wrongfully killed. It is believed that his spirit still protects the temple,  and those who try to desecrate it faces severe consequences.

11. Sabarimala

The famous pilgrimage sight is also a home for a few ghost stories. Some pilgrims have claimed to have seen ghostly figures on their way to the temple, especially during the night trek through the forest.

12. Choorakkottukavu Temple, Palakkad

This temple is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a Yakshi, a mythical vampire-like creature. Locals avoid the temple after dark, fearing an encounter with the Yakshi.

13. Alamcode, Malappuram 

This small village is known for the eerie presence of spirits, Particularly in the abandoned houses. Locals believe that the spirits of those who died in accidents or under mysterious circumstances haunt the area. 

14. Nelliyampathy Hills, Palakkad

The scenic Nelliyampathy Hills are also known for their ghostly tales. Some travelers have reported hearing disembodied voices and seeing apparitions while trekking through the hills.
