background: this is an idea that I had potentially as a new book, but I honestly just don't have time to start a new book at the moment, so call this a prologue for it, I suppose.

This is also an AU tayvis story and so I'm just going to outline a few characters to make it make sense as I'm opposed to using the real life people because I don't want to portray them in a bad way.

Taylor Swift- 16
Travis Kelce- 17
Donna Kelce - Travis' mom
Ed Kelce- Travis' dad
(Travis is an only child)
Howard Stent- Taylor's stepdad (the reason for this is I don't want to portray Scott in a negative way as this character is going to be a villain)
Andrea Swift- Taylor's mom
Austin Swift- Taylor's brother (18- he's actually the older sibling for the purpose of this story)

Sorry for that but I just wanted the story to make sense for everyone!!

trigger warning: domestic abuse

Taylor's pov

" they're arguing again? " I sigh, sitting in the hall, Austin joining beside me.

" of course they are Teff, they always argue " he sits next to me, our backs flat against the wall, both our knees pulled up to our chests.

" do you think we should help mom? " I question, worried for her.

" no, dad will kill us if he knows we're eavesdropping, let's just go back to our rooms. It's the safest place " Austin tells me, fumbling to his feet, reaching his hands out to help me up. " night Teffy, love you " he said.

" love you Aus " I close my bedroom door. My heart was pounding in my chest. I hated conflict, especially between my parents, and it never mattered how many times I've seen them argue, it never ever got better. Technically, Howard wasn't my parent, but our dad died when I was a baby, I never met him properly. Mom met Howard when I was 4 and it's been toxic ever since. He hated Austin and I, constantly claiming we got in the way of their relationship. Mom didn't tolerate it at first, but she soon learned that fighting back against him was the biggest mistake she ever made. She wasn't the mom I knew anymore, she was vulnerable and weak, she'd jump at the sound of pin drop, but we couldn't defend her, we'd get a worse reaction than she does. Howard has definitely been violent with me in the past, Austin too, but not so much considering he's a boy, it's really only me and mom. Austin is extremely protective of me nowadays, so cautious of every boy that I dated, never letting me be alone in the house. Howard forced us to call him dad, so we did, much to our dismay. He was far from how a dad should be.

I know Austin said I shouldn't intervene, but I felt bad leaving mom to deal with him alone. He could get so angry, so horrible, and mom, well, she just put up with it. The abuse, the anger, the yelling. No wonder she was this broken bird now. I listened with my ear pressed to the door, hearing the shouting get louder, more strained, more aggressive. I shuddered when I heard my mom scream, my heart crumbling. I decided to brave it, taking a deep breath, and entering the living room, the sight unfolding in front of me one I'd seen many times, but never got easier.

" get off of her! " I yell, Howard stepping back, stopping, his eyes full of rage.

" who are you fucking talking to? " he screamed, coming closer. I stepped back, trembling in fear. He grabbed the rim of my pyjamas shirt, yanking me over to the wall, slamming me hard against it. I gasped in pain, tears threatening to prick my eyes, but I knew if I cried, it'd be worse. " I asked you a goddamn question Taylor! ANSWER ME " his voice echoed the room, bouncing off the high ceilings, a strong aroma of alcohol filling my nose as he breathed. My voice got stuck in my throat, I didn't know how to answer to him, it was a simple question. I was speaking to him. But, that wouldn't go down well. " pathetic " he spat, his hand swinging from behind him, colliding with my face, I yelp out, my hand cupping the sore spot, a burning sensation starting. I tried to wriggle and free from his grasp, whimpering quietly in fresh pain from where he'd slapped me. I couldn't believe my mom was just watching this happen, well I could, she rarely said anything.
