Interlude (1)
She had no idea what she was doing! Just screaming at Bonnie and then stalking out of the building in a place she’d never been before? It was preposterous! No matter how well I know her, no matter how good our relationship is, I would never be able to expect what was hiding around the bend. Quinn thought. I wonder where she’s going now.
Bonnie spoke urgently in my ear but I refused to listen to what she was saying. I was too busy thinking about Lynn. I’d thought that we were getting somewhere on the plane but had been in an emotional trance because of the shock. I started for the door but Bonnie stopped me.
“Do you think that that’s a good idea after all that just happened?”
“You don’t know what you're talking about, Bonnie! You just don’t want to go after her because she yelled at you. Besides, she could get lost! Remember, she’s never been here before. It’s the first time for all of us.”
I couldn’t believe how well she was listening. She never stays quiet for this long. Just then, I heard a small sniffling coming from Bonnie’s direction. She was crying! Had I been that harsh?
“I-I-I didn’t…” she managed through the tears. She let out small gasps of breath and fell to the floor holding her neck. She was choking! I didn’t know what to do! I had never experienced anything like this before. So, I did what any natural would do. I screamed for help. I yelled so loud that the whole airport fell silent that I could tell. I kept calling for help until a security guard rushed over and only had to glance at Bonnie to know what was happening.
“Medic!” the man shouted into his walkie-talkie. “Medic on floor two, section B seven! We’ve got a teenage girl on the line!”
The man leaned down next to Bonnie and laid her down on the cold, hard, dirty ground. He felt her throat pushed on her chest and tried to help the best he could. Her eyes shook and started to close as her face turned purple and she lay unconscious on her back.
Then, the medic arrived, just in time. They put a breathing mask on her and pushed on her chest some more, giving their best efforts to save her life.
Just then, the most unexpected thing happened. Lynn burst through the door and ran over to where the thick crowd had gathered. She shoved her way through the crowd, accidentally stepping on a lot of feet, and pushed her way to where Bonnie was. Bonnie awakened back into reality with a jolt and ripped the mask off.
“Life, it’s great isn’t it,” Quinn said in a joking manner and a grin on his face.
Bonnie just about smacked him clear across the face if she hadn’t been caught in his deafening stare of Lynn.
“Did you come back from the dead, too, Lynn?” I asked as if it was the greatest joke in the world. My grin magically disappeared when he saw the infuriated look on Lynn’s face.
“I almost had to! Those cars just don’t stop moving do they!” This wasn’t at all a joke. Those speeders had no common sense!
And there it was. With the sting of a palm against a cheek, Lynn almost whacked my face off right there. Then she ran over to Bonnie and almost hugged her to death.
“I’m so so sorry Bonnie I didn’t mean to yell at you.” Tears came out of Lynn’s eyes as I held my red cheek.“Please try to control your emotions more.” Bonnie cried, then Lynn started crying more and they fell on their knees crying and hugging each other. “I’m sorry too, guys. And I am so sorry for being so harsh on you, Lynn” I replied.
And just like that, we were on the road again. Out on the street, just waiting for another series of unfortunate events.
