As you approached the school, you spotted Billy standing by the entrance, leaning casually against the wall, surrounded by a couple of girls who seemed all too eager to hold his attention. He was doing that thing he always did—charming without trying, effortlessly cool in the way only Billy Loomis could pull off. You rolled your eyes at the sight but couldn't help the hint of a smirk tugging at your lips. He had that effect on people, and everyone knew it.
But then, out of the corner of his eye, Billy noticed you. His expression shifted in an instant, the easygoing smile he'd been wearing fading as he excused himself from the group without so much as a second glance in their direction.
The girls looked momentarily confused as he strode away from them, heading straight for you, leaving them in his wake.
"Hey," Billy called out, his voice low and deliberate, as he closed the distance between you. He glanced around quickly, his eyes sharp, scanning your face for something you couldn't quite put your finger on. "You alright?"
You raised an eyebrow, not missing how fast he'd come over. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
Billy didn't answer right away, his gaze briefly flickering down to your hand, still stuffed in your jacket pocket where you had crumpled the note. "Just checking," he finally said, his tone casual, but there was an edge to it. "You look like you didn't get much sleep."
You shrugged, trying to brush it off. "You're one to talk."
He smirked, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Fair point." His gaze lingered on you for a beat too long, and you could tell something was on his mind, though he wasn't saying it.
Before you could ask, Billy took a step closer, lowering his voice so no one else around could hear. "If something's up, you know you can tell me, right? Weird calls, strange notes...whatever." His eyes locked with yours, more serious than usual. "I've got your back."
The mention of the phone calls and notes sent a jolt through you, but you kept your face neutral. He didn't know about the note, at least not yet.
But something told you Billy wasn't just making small talk. He had a way of knowing things, of being one step ahead, and right now, it felt like he was waiting for you to say something.
You met his gaze, feeling the weight of his words. "Yeah," you said after a moment. "I know."
Billy gave a small nod, the intensity in his eyes softening just a bit. He straightened up, glancing back toward the entrance where the girls were still lingering, probably wondering what had just happened. He didn't seem to care.
"Well," he said, flashing that familiar half-smile. "Let's get through this hellhole of a day, huh? You and me, we'll figure the rest out later."
You nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and curiosity bubbling up inside you. There was something going on, something more than just a creepy phone call or a bloody note. And somehow, you had a feeling Billy was more involved in this than he was letting on.
As you and Billy made your way through the bustling hallway, you spotted Tatum, Stu, and Randy gathered in a small huddle. But there was someone new among them—a girl you hadn't seen before.
She stood with an easy confidence, laughing at something Stu said, her dark hair framing her face in a way that made her look effortlessly cool.
Before you could even process it, Billy pulled ahead, striding straight toward her. You watched, a mix of surprise and curiosity flickering through you, as he leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips. The gesture was casual, but there was something undeniably affectionate about it.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, and the girl smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling with a warmth that made you momentarily forget the tension of the morning.
"Y/n, this is Sidney," Stu announced, waving his hands in a grand gesture, as if introducing royalty. "Sidney, meet the infamous Y/N."
Sidney turned her attention to you, and you offered a small smile in return. "Nice to meet you," she said, her voice friendly. "I've heard a lot about you. All good things, I promise."
"Yeah, right," you replied, raising an eyebrow. "I'm sure Stu has been very selective with the highlights."
"Hey!" Stu exclaimed, feigning offense. "I only tell the best stories!"
Tatum chuckled, nudging Stu playfully. "You mean the ones where you look like a hero? Please."
Billy glanced back at you, a hint of amusement in his expression. "Don't mind the circus, you'll get used to it" He sighed
"Yeah, well, it's a little different for me," you replied, folding your arms. "I'm still trying to figure out where I fit into all this."
"Trust me, you'll find your place," Sidney said with a reassuring smile.
As you all walked toward class, the conversation naturally shifted to the recent killings. The air felt charged with a mixture of tension and curiosity, and it was clear everyone had their own thoughts on the situation.
"Can you believe what happened to Casey?" Tatum asked, her tone a mix of disbelief and concern. "It's like something out of a horror movie. I mean, who would do something like that?"
"I don't know, but it's definitely freaking everyone out," Randy replied, running a hand through his hair. "I mean, people are getting scared to even go out at night. It's like we're living in a real-life slasher film."
"Yeah, but what's even weirder is how the killer seems to know exactly who to target," Stu chimed in, his expression shifting to one of mock seriousness. "I mean, it's like they're playing some kind of twisted game. I wouldn't be surprised if they called the victims beforehand, taunting them or something."
Billy's gaze turned serious as he glanced at you. "You've heard about those phone calls, right? They say the killer taunts their victims before they strike."
You nodded, the memory of your own call creeping back into your mind.
As the bell rang, signaling the start of class, you took a deep breath, pushing the creeping anxiety aside for now. You had a day to get through, and if you could keep your friends close, maybe you'd all make it through unscathed.
