Frankie walked into the gymnasium with her date, Dave. The band was setting up their instruments, and music was played through the school speakers. Dave pinned a corsage onto Frankies dress.
"You look so handsome." Frankie said to Dave. Dave blushed and said,a mumbled
"Thank you."
More students were entering the gym. Dave could see his 3 friends, Roy, Adam, and Sheldon. They waved.
The band were now tuning their instruments and did a soundcheck with a song called Sugar we're going down.
The popular kids came into the gymnasium, expecting people to move out of the way for them.
Rick was a jock who was on the basketball team. Aimee was captain of the cheerleaders. Aimed looked across the dance floor and noticed that sad girl Frankie was here and she was with a date. Aimees ex Dave! She was staring daggers at them. Rick sauntered over to the couple and shoved into Dave.
"Sorry dude, my bad." Rick said.
"It's cool," Dave said, offering to shake Rick's hand and then pulling the offer back when Rick put his hand out. Frankie and Dave walked over to the stage where the band was going to start their set.
The drum beat was catchy and carried on. The lead singer and other guitarists all clapped their hands, and the crowd followed suit. The whole gymnasium was full of the noise of a drum beat and hands clapping along to it.
Then the singer started singing.

She says, she's no good with words but I'm worse
Barely stuttered out a joke of a romantic stuck to my tongue
Weighed down with words too overdramatic
Tonight it's "It can't get much worse"
Vs. "No one should ever feel like"

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't wanna forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

You always fold just before you're found out
Drink up it's last call
Last resort, but only the first mistake, and I

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

Why don't you show me a little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress, love

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

Why don't you show me a little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress (Mattress, mattress)
I only want sympathy in the form of you
Crawling into bed with me

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love (Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love (Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

Dance, dance
Dance, dance
Dance, dance
Dance, dance

The crowd erupted into applause before the band went into another song. What a senior prom it was!
