Suddenly, the music shifted, and a hush fell over the crowd. Lord Korran made his entrance, and the atmosphere crackled with energy. He walked in like a king, his presence commanding attention. Dressed in lavish attire—rich fabrics embroidered with gold thread—he exuded confidence, though Elara noticed the slight tension in his shoulders. Elara watched as he greeted his guests with a charming smile, yet there was an undercurrent of arrogance in his demeanor. He believed himself invulnerable, and that very overconfidence would be her weapon. As he moved closer, the crowd parted for him, the nobles vying for his favor, laughter bubbling around him like champagne.

Elara's heart raced with anticipation. She needed to catch his eye, to engage him in conversation that would reveal more of his insecurities. She stepped forward, allowing herself to be seen, her gown catching the light as she approached him with an air of ease. "Lord Korran," she said, "Why are you? You know." Korran chuckled, but there was a flicker of uncertainty behind his confidence. "It's a necessary step for a ruler, wouldn't you agree? To strengthen our position through strategic unions?"

"Indeed," she replied, her gaze steady. "But tell me, do you truly believe that a mere marriage can secure your legacy?" His expression hardened for a moment, a brief flash of irritation. "A ruler must do what is necessary to maintain power," he retorted, though Elara could sense the cracks forming in his bravado.
