Years passed, and Ameena blossomed into a strong, beautiful woman. The village remained peaceful, untouched by darkness, except for the ache in Ameena's heart.

Her father's passing a few years ago had left a scar, though her mother's swift recovery had been a testament to her love for her daughter.

The town's serenity was deceptive, its beauty and calmness a thin veil masking the underlying unease.

It felt too good to be true, like the eerie silence before a storm.

And then, the unthinkable happened. Two villagers were found dead near the border, their bodies a grim reminder of the threat that lurked in the shadows.

The town was thrown into high alert, fear and panic simmering just below the surface. The elder villagers, wise to the ways of the world, counselled a drastic measure: a force must be built, one man from every family, to stand against the darkness and protect their homes.

Ameena, now a skilled warrior, stood tall, her decision made. With no one else to represent her family, she would join the force.

Her friends, Nur and Zara, exchanged concerned glances - a woman in the force was unheard of.
Ameena's mother was resolute in her opposition.

"No, Ameena. Absolutely not." Ameena's anger flared. "Why, Maa? I want to help protect our town. Baba's not here, someone has to go from our family. People will call us a burden if no one does." Her mother's expression softened, but her voice remained firm.

"I don't care what others say. I just want you to be safe. That's final."

Ameena's frustration boiled over. "No, Maa! I won't listen to you anymore. I'm tired of your control - always telling me where I can and can't go. You never trusted me, never confided in me. You lied to me, and now you're doing it again. But I won't be held back. I won't listen to you anymore."  With that, she turned and ran outside.

As Ameena stormed out, her mother collapsed into tears. She had never imagined her own daughter would turn against her like this. All she had ever wanted was to protect Ameena, to shield her from the harsh realities of their world.

But now, it seemed, her efforts had been for nothing. She had already lost Zeenat, and then her husband... the thought of losing Ameena too was unbearable.

Meanwhile, Ameena was also consumed by tears, clutching her father's photo as if it were a lifeline

Meanwhile, Ameena was also consumed by tears, clutching her father's photo as if it were a lifeline.

She had finally unleashed all the pent-up emotions, all the doubts and fears she had been carrying inside. But now, she regretted her harsh words.

She loved her mother, despite everything... but the lies, the secrets, they had taken their toll.

Ameena's mind wandered back to the day she had asked her father about the girl in the photo. He had told her the truth - that she was her older sister, who had died shortly after ameena was born.

But when she had asked her mother, she had been met with a mixture of shock and evasion... "She's your cousin," her mother had stammered.

Ameena's mother's lie sparked a fire within her. She had already discovered the truth - that the girl in the photo was her sister - but her mother's deception cut deep.

Ameena decided to confront her father, but fate intervened. He fell gravely ill, taking to his bed with a sudden sickness.

Ameena's questions remained unasked as her father passed away, leaving her with a chasm of unanswered questions and anger towards her mother.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Ameena gathered her courage and asked the questions she had longed to ask.

Ameena's voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes heavy with the weight of unshed tears

Ameena's voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes heavy with the weight of unshed tears. She was done with the lies, done with the secrets.

"Maa, please... tell me the truth." Her words were laced with a mix of desperation and resignation.

"Tell me about my sister, the borders, and the monsters." Her mother's hands stilled, the spoon hovering above the pot as she turned to face Ameena.

Ameena's gaze bore into her mother's, searching for answers. "Don't lie to me anymore, Maa. I wish Baba were here to tell me the truth." Her voice cracked, and her eyes welled up with tears.

The mention of her father's name hung in the air like a challenge, a reminder of all that had been lost.

Her mother's expression faltered, and for a moment, Ameena saw a glimmer of sadness, of regret.

Ameena's mother looked away, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll tell you everything, but on one condition: you must promise not to leave me, not to join the force."

Ameena widened her eyes"but maa-", "The choice is yours" her mother announced.

What do you think?               What Choice would Ameena make?
