In the chaos that followed the gunshot, the drug dealer, Chan, and the rest of his men suddenly vanished, as if they had anticipated the attack and were waiting for the perfect moment to escape. Their car remained abandoned in the area, casting an air of mystery and suspicion.

On the ther hand, Lingling's sharp eyes locked onto the shooter's face, her expression morphed from pain to a mixture of shock and disbelief. The person standing before her, holding the smoking gun, was the last person she had expected to be capable of such an action.

"Why?...Why would you do this?" Lingling choked out, her voice filled with a mixture of pain, anger, and heartbreak.

Standing before them was none other than Kai, his usually indifferent expression now replaced by a cold, calculating gaze.

Despite Lingling's disbelief, Kai's expression remained stoic and unapologetic. His grip on the gun remained steady and firm, his gaze unwavering as he looked down upon her.

Kai stood before them, his expression cool and indifferent, a stark contrast to the disarray and confusion around them. He continued to hold the gun aloft, its barrel pointed at Lingling and Orm.

"You didn't think I was going to let you keep this profitable business for yourself, did you, Lingling?" he sneered, his tone carrying a hint of bitterness.

"Business is business," he said coolly, his tone lacking any hint of guilt or regret. "And you, Miss Kwong, have become a liability."

Though pain radiated through her injured arm, Lingling's eyes blazed with a mixture of fury and betrayal. She slowly rose to her feet, her gaze locked on Kai's emotionless face.

"After all we've been through...how could you?" she spat out, her voice trembling with anger and heartbreak.

Kai remained impassive in the face of Lingling's anger, his gaze steady and calculating. He took a step forward, his grip on the gun tightening slightly.

"You've always been too sentimental," he retorted coldly. "You let your emotions cloud your judgment and jeopardize our operations."

Lingling clenched her teeth, her expression a mix of pain and defiance. She fought to control her emotions, refusing to let her pain show through.

"And you've always been too ruthless," she countered, her voice edged with bitter anger. "You forget that loyalty and trust are what hold an organization together, not just cold-hearted pragmatism."

Lingling's mind raced as she tried to find a way to reason with him, to make him see the folly of his actions. In a strained voice, she spoke again, her tone more pleading than defiant now.

"My father trusted you," she said, her voice wavering slightly. "He saw you as more than just an asset. He believed in your loyalty and dedication. How can you betray that trust now?"

Kai's expression remained stony, betraying no crack in his steely demeanor. However, a flicker of something - perhaps doubt or hesitation - crossed his eyes at the mention of Lingling's father.

"Your father is an old fool," he retorted, though his voice lacked its usual conviction. "He doesn't understand the true nature of our work."

As the conversation unfolded, Lingling's voice took on a sharper edge, her pain and anger blending with a sense of incredulity.

"And you, a mere right-hand man, presume to know more than the man who built this organization from the ground up? Who are you to question my father's judgment?"

Kai's composure wavered slightly in the face of Lingling's scathing retort. His grip on the gun wavered for a moment before tightening once again, his eyes narrowing in irritation.
