Without saying a word, Hongxi silently took in the scene before him, his expression a mix of disbelief and disappointment.

He stood frozen in the doorway his gaze fixated upon the two women, his usually sharp eyes widened in shock and disbelief. The sight before him was surely the last thing he expected to encounter tonight. The air in the room was thick with tension as he tried to grapple with the reality of the situation, his mouth hanging open, but no words managed to come out.

Lingling felt heart pounding furiously in her chest, desperately wished for the ground to swallow her whole. She knew that there was no way to explain this away and that the consequences of this moment would be dire for her and for Orm.

She could practically feel the intensity of her father's gaze as they locked eyes. She felt like a child who had been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. She couldn't bring herself to say a single word, her mouth feeling as dry as sandpaper.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Mr Kwong spoke.

"Is this what I think it is?"

Lingling struggled to find the right words to say. She knew that her father's question was a rhetorical one. He already knew the answer.

Swallowing hard, she finally found her voice, her words coming out in a shaky whisper.

"Please...let me explain."

Hongxi's eyes narrowed. His gaze never leaving Lingling's. He gestured for her to continue, his face stern with disappointment and anger.

Lingling took a deep breath, steeling herself for the conversation that was about to follow. She knew that she had no excuses, no explanations that would make this situation any better.

"Father..." she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I know this looks bad, but please..."

Her words trailed off, her mind franticly searching for the right thing to say. What could she possibly say to justify her actions? She had let her guard down and now she was paying the price.

But before she could even attempt to continue, Hongxi interrupted her.

"Enough," he said firmly, his voice cold and sharp. "No more explanations. You have disappointed me, Lingling."

His words stung like a slap to the face. Lingling's heart sank even further. She had always prided herself on being the perfect daughter, the one her father could rely on. To hear him tell her that she had let him down was a bitter pill to swallow.

Mr Kwong's expression hardened even further as he continued. "This goes against everything we stand for. It's disgraceful and unacceptable."

He paused for a moment, his gaze flickering towards the other woman. Anger was evident in his eyes as he spoke.

"And with someone like her...a lower class outsider? Have you lost your senses, Lingling?"

As her father continued to express his disappointment in her actions, she couldn't help but feel a small sense of relief. It seemed like her father was unaware of Orm's true identity, believing her to be just a lower class outsider.

She knew that if he had known the truth, the situation would have been much worse. But for now, she could at least hope that she could keep the secret a little longer.

Despite her relief, Lingling couldn't help but feel a pang of worry. She knew that her father was no fool. He had a keen eye and a sharp mind, and he was already suspicious of her.

Suddenly, Hongxi let out a scoff, his eyes narrowing as he studied Orm closely.

As he took in her appearance again, he suddenly froze, a flicker of recognition passing through his eyes. His gaze darkened as he scrutinized her features.
