"baddie baddie shot o clock! baddie baddie shot o clock!" Jaela chanted as we took shots of cognac. The alcohol burned my throat as it went down causing me to make a face. "damn you done got weak on us megan!" My friend alyssa stated. I shook my head at her comment. I haven't drank since that night with... yeah. But today is my girl birthday so you know I gotta turn up.
Alyssa is a new friend I met through this support group I joined. My therapist, yes I got a therapist, suggested I join it so I can be surrounded with people going through "similar struggles" or whatever she said. Alyssa is mad cool though, and she fine asf. She raps for fun but I think she should take it serious cause she got mad talent.
I met her a couple weeks into the group, and from day one we clicked instantly. Her vibe was real, never sugar coating shit or no fake positivity. Just straight up advice, mixed with a side of humor. She would make me laugh even when I didn't feel like it. She played a huge part in keeping me on track, and she is one of the few people who don't pry into my business.
"you gonna be tapped out before we even start meg!" alyssa teased while cackling. "what happened to "Hot Girl Meg" hmmm??"
I rolled my eyes, a smirk forming. "she still in here, just pacing herself."
Jaela snorted. "girl please, she's been on a hiatus. Let's see if she makes a comeback tonight."
As much as I joked with them, I knew that former party girl will probably never come back out. No matter how much fun I tried to have, there was always that lingering weight of what happened last time I drank too much.
"Let's take another shot for the birthday girl, then hit the dance floor!" Jaela exclaimed, dragging us into another round of shots. We threw it back, the burn not as bad as before. We made our way to the dance floor.
Alyssa was already turnt as she was dancing all up on me. As far as I know she's straight, but if she keeps fucking around she might get crushed.
The music was blasting and Jaela was next to me moving effortlessly to the beat. Honestly my mind kept drifting and I found myself zoning off.
That's when I saw her.
Across the room, leaning against the wall with a cup in her hand, was glo. She looked different, like she had been through a transformation of her own. Her hair was slayed, her body looked toned as if she been in the gym, and she has definitely added a few tattoos to her collection. Next to her was a man I never seen before. They were chatting it up and she kept laughing. wtf is ever that funny?
Alyssa leaned in, snapping me out of it. "yo you good? you look like you seen a ghost."
I swallowed hard and shook my head. "Glo is here" Her eyes widened.
"Glo? as in your ex glo??"
I nodded, unable to keep my eyes off her. She looked so different but so good. It was like the universe was playing a prank on me. Right when I start to heal, here I am facing her again.
"are you gonna talk to her?" Jaela asked curiously.
I bit my lip. Every part of me wanted to go up to her, to explain, to apologize. But seeing her here smiling and laughing like nothing ever happened honestly hurts. It looked like she was doing just fine without me.
"I... I don't know." I admitted. "Like what would I even say? it's been mad long"
Alyssa shook her head. "girl go say your peace that you been dying to say since it happened."
