Grant woke up early the following day to prepare for his appointment. He couldn't believe he had to leave the comfort of his room. He wasn't in the best mood since his injured leg was aching. Dominick ensured Miriam fixed him a nice bowl of oatmeal so he could take his medication and allow the pain to subdue before arriving at the doctor's office.
The appointment went rather quickly. Grant's doctor checked his wound to make sure it was healing correctly. He also asked a few questions before announcing his decision to prescribe the giant more painkillers and instructing him to walk around.
"I don't expect you to run a marathon, but it wouldn't hurt to move around the house. Lack of movement causes muscle atrophy. Not exactly good for your profession." Dr. Schultz stated in his thick Jersey accent. He was short with a tanned complexion. The doctor had thick, salt-and-pepper hair that was filled with slight curls. The five o'clock shadow on his face took off a few years of his actual age.
Dominick grew alert by Dr. Schultz's words. He raised his brows and parted his lips before asking, "What would happen if he developed it?"
Dr. Schultz folded his arms as he casually spoke with the retired basketball player. He leaned his head to the side and said, "Imagine Grant lying down throughout the healing process. His muscles will shrink and weaken if he doesn't move that leg around. He'll be able to grow strength in his right leg, but it'll be harder. This is why I advise everyone who comes in here with a leg injury to move around—whether you're in your room or walking anywhere in your house. This will prevent any other issues."
Dominick nodded with a clear understanding.
"Well, I always make sure he moves around." He was telling the truth. Dominick constantly pushed Grant to walk up and down the stairs—even when Diane was against it. "What about the brace?"
"He should keep wearing it." The doctor rasped. "He needs stabilization and support with his limited movement."
Grant sat there feeling annoyed and embarrassed. He couldn't get a word in with his doctor because Dominick took over. Grant couldn't believe what was happening. He was twenty-one years old. He had a full beard and dropped nut sacks and all. However, his father was still trying to dictate his life.
They quietly left the doctor's office with their entourage. Dominick was no longer in the spotlight but still had to maintain some type of security. A few years ago, he was out and about with his wife with no security and ran into a wacko who tried to ambush him. Dominick punched him in the face, which settled the situation quickly. However, he was sued for assault, but the charges were later dropped after the truth was revealed. Diane was so shaken up that she demanded he hire security to travel with him. Now, he had to take a guard with him in the public. Dominick thought it was silly, but he grew used to the routine after realizing he had a huge fanbase. He'd accomplished a lot during his days of playing professional ball. His rings and stats were proof.
The security guards kept people away. However, it didn't scare the paparazzi off. Dominick was confused by the setup of people snooping around the clinic with cameras. Usually, celebrities call the paparazzi on themselves to trigger the people on the internet. However, this situation was different. Dominick had no time or energy to deal with people snooping in his business.
Hurriedly, he got Grant settled in the back of the Cadillac before hopping in. They pulled off and circled to prevent being followed. Dominick glanced at his guard, who sat in the front with his eyes trained on the road.
"That was paparazzi," Dominick announced in bewilderment. It was weird to see that happening to him. He'd never been papped outside of any activity unrelated to basketball.
