"Nice of you to meet with me, Mr. Robinson-or should I say, President Robinson."
Grant sat in the chair with his signature subtle expression. He was persuaded to meet with Dean Mitchell. Initially, he rejected his offer due to his situation with assaulting Jalen. He figured the dean didn't care for him after he snatched his nephew up during the football game.
Grant narrowed his eyes in suspicion. He said nothing because he was curious about the Dean and his request to meet with him.
"Would you like any refreshments?" The dean questioned him with a subtle smirk on his face. Grant felt it was one of his sly expressions that he usually wore whenever he was up to no good. "Tea? Coffee? Soda? Wine?"
"You offer your students wine, Dean Mitchell?" Grant reversed the question, putting him in the spotlight. He leaned back and clasped his hands as he waited for a response.
"I only offer the President wine-executive privilege." Dean Mitchell corrected him. "You're at least twenty-one. That's old enough to drink."
Grant took a deep breath before saying, "No, thank you. I just want to know why I'm in your office."
Dean Mitchell cleared his throat before straightening his tie. "Well, with your new role as President of Winston State University, we'll be seeing each other a lot."
"Hm..." Grant hummed.
"You know..." The dean trailed off as he poured himself a glass of white wine. "Your new title is important-vital to this university. Grant, you are in charge of leading and protecting the people."
Immediately, Grant's eyes fell upon the man, but he didn't speak. He knew what the dean was trying to do. He sat there and watched as he gulped down the wine and closed his eyes, slowly savoring the taste on his tongue.
In the midst of waiting for him to speak, Grant's eyes drifted toward a photo on the dean's desk. He noticed Dean Mitchell in the photo with his white wife and biracial children. Grant didn't know much about the wife or the son, but he had seen them around campus a few times. However, he was acquainted with Dean Mitchell's daughter, Shannon. She attended Winston and was known around campus for being a serial dater.
Grant knew this because she was the cause of Pierre Garnett and Thomas McNair getting expelled two years ago. They had a shootout on campus behind her. Everyone knew, but it seemed as if everyone had swept it under the rug. Dean Mitchell made sure his daughter's name didn't appear on any police report. She was basically the innocent person in the situation. However, Pierre and Thomas were not only expelled but arrested and charged for their negligence.
Grant shook his head softly. That didn't seem to scare away the men from sniffing around Shannon. She was an attractive girl and a current member of the Zeta Gamma Beta sorority, so she had no issues pulling men.
"I have a beautiful family, huh?" Dean Mitchell caught him examining the photo. A small smirk appeared on his face. "Maybe you can have that one day. A beautiful wife, son, and a daughter."
Grant glanced at the picture for the second time with his eyes glued to the wife. He couldn't help but wrinkle his nose before looking off.
"You and Annika make a lovely couple." The dean pushed out. "Maybe the both of you will have a big family-just like mine."
I beg to differ.
"Why am I here?" Grant questioned him with irritation laced in his tone. He didn't want to talk or think about a future with Annika because it wasn't happening. He was completely over her and had no plans to work things out with the girl.
