I've been working nonstop since we came back to camp. I didn't feel too tired even though I hadn't slept in 72 hours, I knew I wasn't gonna be able to sleep peacefully anyway, we had war coming and Clarke, Finn and Monty are missing so it's up to me and Blake to keep the hundred alive, to survive the war. I had been training with Alec every night and training the hundred on the evenings, guarding at sunrise, and building radios, weapons, bullets, anything that could help us have a better shot at survival and avoiding Bellamy, I couldn't look at him, not without remembering seeing him and Raven- ew, I fell for him but I took too long. And either way he doesn't see me that way, he made that crystal clear. I was on guard so Harper could rest even though she said I should rest too but I declined again "You need to rest Madds" Tavia said as she walked up to me "Not gonna happen" "Fine. Tell me what happened yesterday then" "Nothing" "Come on Maddi, I'm not stupid. You've been acting cold towards everyone, except me" Tavia said "Look it's nothing okay? I made a mistake and I fixed it. Don't worry about it" "Mistake?" Tavia asked right before we heard a gun go off and we both ran towards the sound to find Bellamy yelling at Sterling
"Hey... What the hell is the matter with you?" Bellamy yelled as he put Sterling up against a tree "I'm sorry, man. I fell asleep. I've been on watch all day" Sterling apologized "We've all been on watch all day! That bullet was one less dead grounder" "Bell, you're scaring people" Tavia said "They should be scared! The bomb on the bridge bought us some time to prepare, but that time is up! The grounders are out there right now, waiting for us to leave and picking us off one by one when we do! Clarke, Finn, and Monty are gone, probably dead, and if you want to be next, I can't stop you, but no guns are leaving this camp! This camp is the only thing keeping us alive! Get back to work!" Bellamy ordered before walking towards the dropship "Talk to him. He listens to you" "Not anymore" I muttered below my breath but Tavia heard me "Look whatever happened, you two will figure it out but you two are the leaders, you two are friends, hell more than that if you ask me and he could use some support from you right now" Tavia said and I just walked towards the dropship. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement. Use your head and don't say or do anything stupid "Hey" "So you're talking to me now?" Bellamy asked not looking up to me "Look we're the only leaders left and we're friends. I just came in here to make sure you're okay" I said and Bellamy looked up to me when I said friends "So we're not gonna talk about it? Of course we aren't" Bellamy scoffed. "Bellamy-" I started but Bellamy immediately cut me off which I was kind of thankful for, I didn't even know what I was gonna say "No Maddison. I get it, look I'm fine don't you have things to do" Bellamy said angrily "You're not fine" "Maddison-" "Deal with your problems Bellamy, you can't lash out like that" "You want me to deal with my problems? Fine. My problem is you. We got drunk and slept together and instead of talking about it like adults you ignored the topic like a plague. You're a coward Maddison, every time someone gets close to you you push them away cause you're scared" "Says the guy who slept with one of my best friends. You know maybe I am a coward but you-" "Water" Myles called and both Bellamy and I turned to him, and I just stormed out. I walked into my tent and sat on my bed and put my head on my hands "Maddi. Hey sis what happened?" "Tavia please leave. I don't like you seeing me like this" "We're sisters Maddi and I'll always be here for you, in the good and the bad times" Tavia said as she sat next to me on the bed and placed her hand on my shoulder "He's right" "Who? Did Bellamy hurt-" "I am a coward" I said as a couple tears fell from my eyes "Hey. no you're not" "I am Tavi, I've always ran from my problems. On the Ark, and Earth" "Maddi-" "They are right. They're both fucking right, I just can't help it, every time there's a problem I run from it instead of facing it" "Maddi you've made mistakes but you're not a coward, on the Ark you put your ass on the line to help others-" Octavia started "Yeah and then I ran when things got hard" "Yes you ran but it wasn't selfishly, you wanted Skye to live, you wanted to keep helping people. And on Earth you took the place as the fiercest leader we could have asked for, you've risked your life thousands of times for the hundred, you didn't run from danger you ran towards it" Tavia said and hugged me "Promise me you won't call yourself a coward again sis" Tavi demanded "I-" [on the walkie] "You know what'll happen if you tell Maddison and Bellamy" Murphy's voice sounded through the radio and I took it walking out of the tent with Tavia hot on my tail "Tavia go help Raven, I'll take care of whatever this is" "On it Maddi" Tavia said before leaving towards the south foxhole [on the walkie] "Tell us what?" Bellamy asked from his radio [on the walkie] "Murphy has a gun, he killed Myles" Jasper rushed before we heard something collide with what I think was his head. I ran towards the doors but it closed before I could reach them. Damn it. [on the walkie] "Murphy. What the hell?" I asked [on the walkie] "Anyone tries to be the hero. Jasper dies" Murphy said "I just heard Murphy has Jasper" Tavia said coming up to us "Yeah. South foxhole all done?" Bellamy asked "What? Bellamy, my friend's in there with a killer" "Tavia, look around. No one's working. If the grounders attack us right now, we're all dead" "Murphy! Murphy, if you even touch Jasper, I swear to God, you're dead" Tavia yelled at the dropship " Octavia, we got this" Bellamy said "Really? Because it doesn't look like you're doing anything about it" Tavia said "Madds, you were right. There's a loose panel on the back. If I can pop it, we can get in through the floor" Raven said " Sorry" [on the walkie] "Murphy, I know you can hear me. Our ammo and food is in the middle level. You're leaving us vulnerable to an attack. I can't let that happen" Bellamy said [on the walkie] "Yeah, well, in case you haven't noticed, you're not exactly in control right now" Murphy said [on the walkie] "Come on, Murphy. You don't want to hurt Jasper. You want to hurt me. So what do you say? How about you trade him for me?" Bellamy said "No" Both Tavia and I said at the same time [on the walkie] "All you have to do is let him go, and I'll take his place" Bellamy continued [on the walkie] "How?" Murphy asked "Bellamy, if you do this, he'll kill you" Tavia pleaded "If I don't, he'll kill Jasper" Bellamy said and I nodded at Nate, Sterling and another two they're friends, they hold him down and tossed me his radio "What the hell are you doing?" Bellamy asked trying to get out of their hold "The right thing" "Maddi" Tavia warned [on the walkie] "Bellamy is not going anywhere with you Murphy" [on the walkie] "Let me guess, he finally embraced the coward he really is" Murphy said [on the walkie] "We both know he's no coward" [on the walkie] "What do you want Maddison?" Murphy asked getting straight to the point [on the walkie] "You're gonna give Jasper back alive and unharmed" [on the walkie] "Unless Bellamy comes I don't plan on doing that anytime soon" Murphy said and I [on the walkie] "How about my life for Jasper's?" "Maddi no" Bellamy said "Sis" Tavia said but Murphy kept quiet, then I had an idea, an incredibly stupid one which would probably sign my death sentence but Jasper's life is priority [on the walkie] "Come on Murphy. I didn't get the medicine for your dad when he was dying. I dumped you. when you were being hanged I told Bellamy to kick the stool beneath you. Are you sure you want Bellamy?" I asked and held my breath. Please work. Just then the door creaked [on the walkie] "Just you, Maddison, unarmed" Murphy ordered and I took off my sword with its shed and the four medium sized knifes and gave them to Nate. "Madds. Are you sure about this?" Nate asked stopping me "We need to save Jasper" I said dodging the question "Maddi you just gave him reasons to kill you. I can't lose you, you're my sister" Tavia pleaded "Octavia. You won't" I lied "We both know that's not true" Nate said "Maddi. Don't do it" Bellamy said "I have to" [on the walkie] "10 seconds, or I'll put one in Jasper's leg. One..." Murphy said "Raven will find a way to get you out" Tavia said giving up " I can handle Murphy. You two get everyone back to work. The grounders are still coming." [on the walkie] "- 4... 5..." Murphy said and I turned around and walked towards the ramp "I'm here" I said moving the red tarp to walk in just as Murphy pushed Jasper tied up out of the dropship
