The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a soft golden glow across the room. Aiko stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she blinked away the last remnants of sleep. Beside her, Kaminari was already awake, grinning from ear to ear as he propped himself up on one elbow, watching her with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Morning, sleepyhead," he teased, his voice light.
Aiko groaned, pulling the blanket over her face. "Denki, it's too early for you to be this cheerful."
Kaminari laughed, playfully tugging the blanket away. "No way, babe. It's our one-year anniversary! I've got plans, and you can't sleep through them."
Aiko peeked out from under the blanket, raising an eyebrow. "Plans, huh?"
"Yup!" Kaminari said proudly, sitting up in bed. "I've got the whole day mapped out. You just have to trust me."
Aiko smiled, warmth spreading through her chest. It was hard to believe that a whole year had passed since they'd started dating. Despite everything—the ups and downs, the job struggles, the long missions, and the near-misses with her moving to Sweden—they had made it work. And here they were, celebrating one year together.
"Alright, Mr. Planner," Aiko teased, sitting up and stretching. "What's first on the agenda?"
Kaminari leaned in, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead. "First? Breakfast. I'm making pancakes."
Aiko blinked, trying not to laugh. "Oh no."
"What?" Kaminari said, feigning offense. "You doubt my cooking skills?"
"Let's just say the last time you made breakfast, we almost set off the fire alarm." Aiko smiled as she recalled the time he had burned toast so badly that the apartment still smelled of smoke for days.
"That was one time!" Kaminari protested, already climbing out of bed. "This time will be different. Just wait."
Aiko chuckled, watching as Kaminari disappeared into the kitchen. She shook her head affectionately. He always made her laugh, even when things weren't perfect. And today, she was determined to enjoy every moment of their day together.
About thirty minutes later, Aiko sat at the dining table, eyeing the plate of pancakes Kaminari had set in front of her. They were... slightly uneven, one or two a little burnt around the edges, but his enthusiasm made up for it.
"Ta-da!" Kaminari announced with a flourish, beaming at her. "Perfect pancakes, just for you."
Aiko stifled a laugh, picking up her fork. "They look... unique."
"Hey, it's the taste that counts," Kaminari said, plopping down in the seat across from her and digging into his own plate.
Aiko took a bite, her eyes widening in surprise. "Okay, these are actually good."
"Told ya!" Kaminari grinned, his mouth full of pancakes. "I'm a breakfast genius."
"Alright, alright," Aiko teased, rolling her eyes with a smile. "What's next on your master plan for the day?"
Kaminari swallowed his bite and leaned forward, a playful gleam in his eyes. "It's a surprise. But first, you need to get dressed. Something comfy but cute."
Aiko raised an eyebrow. "Comfy but cute? That's a suspiciously vague description."
"You'll see," Kaminari said with a wink.
A few hours later, after a brief drive out of the city, they arrived at a peaceful park nestled by a lake, the trees just beginning to show the first signs of autumn. The crisp air carried the scent of pine and freshly fallen leaves, and Aiko immediately felt a sense of calm wash over her.
"This place is beautiful," Aiko murmured as they walked hand-in-hand along the lakeshore.
"I'm glad you like it," Kaminari said softly, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "I used to come here sometimes when I needed to clear my head. Thought it would be a good spot for us to spend the day."
Aiko smiled up at him, her heart swelling with affection. "It's perfect."
They spent the afternoon wandering along the trails, laughing and reminiscing about the past year. Kaminari told stories about his latest missions, and Aiko shared updates about her new job at the school in the next town over. It felt easy, like nothing else in the world mattered except the two of them.
As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the lake, Kaminari led Aiko to a secluded spot near the water's edge. He had brought along a blanket and a small picnic basket, which he now laid out on the grass.
"This... this is really special, Denki," Aiko said softly as they sat down together, the peaceful sound of the water lapping against the shore filling the quiet space between them.
"Well, you're special," Kaminari said, his voice a little more serious than usual as he looked at her.
Aiko blushed, feeling the weight of his words. She leaned her head against his shoulder, the warmth of his body a comforting presence.
"I'm so glad we made it to this point," she whispered. "I wasn't sure we'd ever get here after everything that happened."
Kaminari wrapped an arm around her, pressing a soft kiss to her hair. "Me too. But we did. And I wouldn't trade any of it for the world."
For a moment, they sat there in silence, watching the sun sink lower in the sky. Then, Kaminari shifted slightly, his hand moving to cup her face as he turned her to look at him.
"Aiko," he said quietly, his eyes full of love and warmth. "I don't think I tell you enough how much you mean to me. I love you so much, and I'm so lucky to have you in my life."
Aiko's breath caught in her throat at the intensity of his gaze, the sincerity of his words. She smiled, her heart full as she leaned in to kiss him softly.
"I love you too," she whispered against his lips.
As the evening continued, they lay together on the blanket, watching the stars begin to twinkle in the darkening sky. Aiko nestled against Kaminari's chest, feeling completely content. Everything was perfect—until Kaminari broke the peaceful silence.
"So," he said, his tone suddenly mischievous. "How much would you love me if I told you I forgot the dessert at home?"
Aiko's head shot up, and she stared at him, wide-eyed. "Denki!"
Kaminari winced, his playful grin betraying him. "Uh... surprise?"
Aiko burst out laughing, shaking her head in disbelief. "You're unbelievable."
Kaminari grinned sheepishly. "But I remembered the blanket! And the lake! And—"
"It's fine," Aiko said, still laughing as she leaned back against him. "I think this day has been sweet enough without dessert."
Kaminari's smile softened, and he pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Good save. Happy anniversary, babe."
"Happyanniversary, Denki."
