The apartment felt unbearably quiet.
Kaminari sat slumped on the couch, staring blankly at the wall. His heart felt heavy, weighed down by the crushing emptiness that had settled over him ever since Aiko had left. It had been a few days since she ended things, and the wound still felt raw, as if she had just walked out the door.
But today was worse. Today, she had come back to pack up her things.
Kaminari had watched silently as Aiko moved through the apartment, carefully boxing up her belongings, her expression unreadable. She didn't say much, and neither did he. There was nothing left to say. The relationship, the life they had built together—it was over.
And it hurt. God, it hurt.
Now, his friends were here. They had come over, concerned about him, wanting to help. But Kaminari wasn't sure if anything could help right now. The breakup had taken a toll on him in a way he hadn't anticipated, leaving him feeling hollow, numb.
Kirishima, Sero, and even Bakugo were scattered around the apartment, trying to make conversation, trying to pull him out of his daze. But Kaminari barely registered their words. He just sat there, unmoving, as if his entire world had stopped turning.
"Hey, man," Kirishima said softly, sitting on the edge of the coffee table in front of Kaminari. "We know you're hurting, but you don't have to go through this alone. We're here for you."
Kaminari didn't respond. He knew his friends meant well, but right now, nothing felt like it could fix the gaping hole in his chest.
"Breakups suck," Sero added, leaning back in his chair. "Especially in our line of work. Dating's already tough for heroes. I've been ghosted more times than I can count because of it."
Kirishima nodded, his expression sympathetic. "Yeah, dude. It's hard. I've had girls bail on me when they realized how dangerous my job is. It's just the reality of being a hero sometimes."
Even Bakugo, who had been leaning silently against the wall with his arms crossed, gave a slight nod. His usual gruff demeanor softened as he spoke. "Tch. It's a pain in the ass. People don't understand what it's like to be with a hero. They think they can handle it, then freak out when things get real."
The others nodded in agreement, sharing their own experiences with how difficult it was to date as a pro hero. Kaminari knew they were trying to help, trying to make him feel less alone in his heartbreak. But no matter how many stories they shared, it didn't ease the pain in his chest.
Because none of them were Aiko.
"I know it's tough," Kirishima continued gently. "But you're strong, Kaminari. You'll get through this. We've got your back, man."
But Kaminari didn't feel strong. He felt broken.
He hadn't just lost a girlfriend—he had lost the person he had thought he would spend the rest of his life with. The one he had imagined a future with. And now, that future was gone.
"I don't know how to get over her," Kaminari finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. His eyes were hollow, his usual spark completely dimmed. "I... I loved her. I still love her. How do you get over that?"
The room fell silent for a moment. His friends exchanged glances, unsure of how to respond. It was clear that Kaminari's pain ran deeper than they had realized.
"It takes time," Kirishima said gently. "There's no easy way to get over someone you love. But we'll help you through it, one day at a time."
"Yeah," Sero agreed. "You're not alone in this, man. We've all been there in one way or another."
Even Bakugo, though he didn't say anything more, gave a small nod of agreement. His expression was still as gruff as ever, but the understanding in his eyes was unmistakable.
But Kaminari just shook his head. "I don't want to get over her."
His friends fell silent again, their hearts aching for him. They could see how much Aiko had meant to him, how deeply he had fallen for her. And now, without her, Kaminari looked lost, as if the light had gone out of his world.
"We get it," Kirishima said quietly. "We really do. And we're here, no matter how long it takes."
Kaminari gave a small, weak nod, but the pain in his chest remained. He appreciated his friends being there for him—he really did—but the loss of Aiko felt like something that couldn't be fixed with words or time.
Because no matter howmuch time passed, he wasn't sure his heart would ever heal from losing her.
