-One Month Later-
Rumors about the Port Mafia spread like a contagion, ensnaring minds. A new faction emerged, posing a threat to our existence: The Night Watchers. Despite being a mere imitation of the mafia, they constituted a sizable and structured terrorist organization.
"We need to quickly wipe the Night Watchers off of the map," Hirotsu explained. "We can't risk losing more of our men to this organization."
"Shouldn't this be a job for the executives?" I questioned. "No offense to you, but what's one ability user, three trained assassins, and hired guns going to do? This is a tough task for just the Black Lizard alone."
"She has a point," Michi agreed. "They could at least send Akutagawa or Nakahara."
"I know, but orders are orders," Hirotsu sighed. "All of the other ability users are busy taking care of other matters, so we're all that's left. Our intel shows that their hideout is in an old warehouse near the docks."
-At The Night Watcher's Base-
This time, Gin and I were teamed up, perched atop the roof awaiting the signal. The strategy involved Hirotsu, Michizou, and our troops engaging the bulk of the forces at the front entrance. Amidst the ensuing chaos, Gin and I planned to seize the chance to eliminate the leader.
The roof, constructed of a certain metal, required some time to melt through with our portable welder. No sooner had we levered off the panel than the gunfire erupted.
I exchanged nods with Gin; it was time. We quickly slipped into a small room, positioning ourselves back-to-back. If the Night Watchers resembled the Port Mafia in any way, they would likely hide their leader in the building's most fortified area. A windowless storage room would serve as an ideal hiding spot.
Running through the halls, I could sense no one around (thanks to Ally's curse). Their leader must've sent everyone to the front lines. What an idiot. I stopped in my tracks, once I finally spotted a singular soul behind a door.
Clutching the back of Gin's jacket, we came to a halt. When I gestured towards the door, she grasped my intention.
As I raised my foot to kick the door, it shattered. A figure with vines protruding from his back emerged slowly into the light.
"I guess my men couldn't hold you little puny kids back," he evilly grinned. "Oh well, I'll deal with their failure later."
One of his vines slowly retracted. He's going after Gin first! Without a second thought, I leaped in front of her, letting the vines coil around my right arm.
"(Y/n)... what are you doing?!" She shrieked.
"My purpose is to protect those I hold most dear." I spoke from the bottom of my heart. "Get out of here, there's no point in the both of us dying."
Not happening!" She protested. "You're like a sister to me, I'm not leaving you behind!"
I appreciate her concern for me, but it would have been simpler to deal with this guy using my abilities. However, I shouldn't do that with Gin present.
"AGH!" I grunted in pain, as the circulation began to cut itself off in my arm.
"Should've run while you had the chance," the man laughed.
"(Y/n), your arm!" Gin shrieked.
Damn, this really hurts. I guess I'm left with no other choice.
"Hey Gin." My breath became heavier, as my vision started to blur. "Promise me... that you'll never speak of... what I'm about to do."
"HAHA! YOU SERIOUSLY THINK THAT THERE'LL BE AN AFTER FOR YOU?!"
"I promise!"
Closing my eyes, I focused all my energy on the tiny doll in my pocket. She had blonde hair and green eyes, dressed in a white faux fur hat, a dark green velvet dress, and ice skates. With strategic movements, I guided her blades across the vine that had trapped me.
The shreds of greenery fell to the floor, as I called Evergreen back to my hand. Her curse made her skate blades as sharp as a medical scalpel. She was perfect for when I needed a moving blade that had to be concealed. Alice on the other hand, is more durable, since she can transform into a sword. Problem is, she's too big to hide, which was why she wasn't on my person. I better end this quickly.
As the man was coming to terms with the recent events, I dispatched Evergreen to vanish into the shadows, from where she would suddenly dart out to the side.
Slicing him from the back is too obvious.
"You're not going to win by standing around if that's what you're-" He looked down to see the long slash along his gut, where his organs began to spill out. "What's... this?"
The small doll in green floated back over to me, so I could wipe the blood off of her skates with my (f/c) handkerchief.
"My ability, Suffer the Little Children, allows me to control cursed dolls." After her blades were back to their clean state, I placed her back in my large coat pocket. "I just adore porcelain dolls. Thank you for your help, Evergreen."
"That's... impossible!" He croaked. "I did all the research I needed on every single ability user in the Port Mafia. You were not on that list!"
"I'm aware of that." I un-holstered my gun, pointing it at his head. "Just because I have an ability doesn't mean I need to tell people about it."
*Bang*
The boss of the Night Watchers has been eliminated.
"You have an ability?!" Gin gasped.
"Please don't tell anyone, Gin. Not Hirotsu; not even Michizou!"
"Don't worry, I won't say a word," she promised. "But your ability is very useful, so why not use it?"
"I want to prove that I'm strong enough without this curse," I lied. "It's also quite embarrassing, since I'm eighteen and carrying around dolls. I always carry at least one with me, just in case, but I try to keep them out of sight."
I showed her the inside of my jacket, where Ally and Evergreen currently resided.
"I see." Gin placed her hand on my shoulder. "I'm glad that you trust me enough to tell me."
"Yeah, me too."
The Captain is going to kill me.
