(ISADORA'S POV)
As I stepped through the grand doors of the castle, the familiar sight of its cold, stone walls greeted me. I had been away, but now I was back. Days of punishment for leaving the castle had felt long and pointless. Grounded for such a simple thing.
Despite everything, my mind often wandered back to Gabriel. I missed him.
"Princess Isadora," a voice broke through my thoughts. One of the servants stood by, waiting. "Your Majesty has asked you to come to the throne room."
I sighed, knowing I couldn't delay this meeting any longer. As I made my way down the long corridors, I couldn't help but think, No matter how many windows or how bright the sunlight is, this castle always feels so cold.
When I arrived at the throne room, I bowed before the king – my father, King Dale. His eyes were stern as they met mine.
"Isadora," he said, his voice sharp. "After your recent behaviour, have you learned anything from your punishment? You cannot keep running wild like this. You're a young lady, and this kingdom is looking to you for guidance. The people are starting to question when you will marry. And, truth be told, I wonder the same."
My heart dropped as he continued.
"I am growing old, Isadora. I want to see grandchildren before I pass. And because of your reckless actions, I've made a decision. For the good of the kingdom and my duty as your father, you will marry Prince Julian of Astoria. The wedding will happen next week."
"Wait, what?!" I blurted out, feeling my chest tighten. "Dad, no! This isn't fair. I don't know him. I don't love him!"
"Isadora," he said firmly. "This is final. If you hadn't been so reckless, perhaps things would be different. But you need to understand that you have responsibilities – not just to yourself but to this kingdom."
I felt the weight of his words crushing me. His eyes softened for a moment as he placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I hope you understand what's best for you," he said quietly before turning and leaving the room.
I stood there, frozen. My knees buckled, and I sank to the floor. How could this be happening? My thoughts raced, filled with confusion and sadness. What about Gabriel?
