(ISADORA'S POV)Julian's hand rested lightly on my waist as we strolled through the palace gardens, the sun beginning to set in a warm glow. It should have been the perfect moment, yet my heart raced with unease.
My father, King Dale, stood on the terrace, beaming with pride at the thought of his daughter marrying the prince from Astoria. His joy was palpable, and I didn't want to disappoint him. This union was meant to strengthen the ties between our kingdoms, and Julian fit perfectly into that vision.
"Isadora?" Julian's voice pulled me from my thoughts. "You seem a little distracted. Everything alright?"
I forced a smile, shaking off my nerves. "Of course! Just thinking about the cake testing tomorrow."
Julian chuckled lightly, unaware of the storm brewing inside me. "I spoke with Gabriel earlier. He's been perfecting the recipes, and I'm sure it'll be delicious. I can't wait to see what he comes up with," his trust in Gabriel was unwavering.
As we passed the kitchen entrance, I caught sight of Gabriel. He was leaning against the doorway, wiping his hands on a cloth, his expression unreadable. I looked away quickly, a flush creeping up my cheeks.
"Are you nervous?" Julian asked, tilting his head slightly. "It's just cake. Gabriel knows what he's doing."
"Yes, I know," I replied, trying to sound confident. "I just... I want to make sure everything is perfect."
Julian smiled, completely at ease. "You'll do great. And don't worry—I'll be back before you know it. Just a few meetings in Astoria."
The news struck me like a sudden chill. "You're leaving?"
His nod felt like a weight in my chest. "Just for a couple of days. The council needs me to handle some matters. I trust you with the finishing touches of our wedding."
"Right..." I forced out a laugh that didn't quite reach my eyes. I wanted to show my father and Julian that I was strong and capable.
Julian leaned in closer, his eyes searching mine. "Isadora," he murmured, "before I go..."
I held my breath as he brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his touch sending butterflies racing through my stomach. "I want to make sure you know how much you mean to me."
With that, he leaned in, capturing my lips in a soft, lingering kiss. It was tender yet electric, a moment where everything else faded away. My worries melted as I kissed him back, the warmth of his affection enveloping me.
When he finally pulled away, both of us breathless, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "I'll miss you, Isadora."
"Same here.." I muttered
How do I really feel?
With one last, lingering look, he turned around and left for his home, the Kingdom of Astoria.
