In the eerie silence of the mansion, illuminated by the moon, Ankita gazed emptily out her window, contemplating her future. As her birthday approached, she grew more frightened, knowing that on that day she would be forced to marry the most dangerous person in the country. Her hopes of a happy marriage and family shattered like fragile glass.
With tears streaming down her face, she rested her head against the window, feeling a deep sadness. Once Adhiraaj had left the room, thinking her asleep, she sat by the window, hugging her knees to her chest, consumed by self-pity as she reflected on how drastically her life had changed from freedom to captivity.
Within a few months, everything was different. She was abruptly removed from the familiar comfort of her previous life. She longed for the carefree days spent in the village with her parents, playing with friends in the fields, swimming in the wells and canals, and being chased by her mother when she skipped school. Her mother would drag her to school when she discovered Ankita's truancy and her father would protect her whenever there was a conflict between her parents about her behaviour in the village.
Now, he had complete control over her every breath. As time went on, she became increasingly frightened by his unpredictable behaviour. She lived in constant fear of what he might do next. One moment Adhiraaj would be kind and gentle, and the next moment he would be filled with rage. She couldn't forget the day Adhiraaj attacked a maintenance worker who had come to Ankita's room to fix her air conditioning while Ankita was simply looking out the window. Adhiraaj stormed into the room and brutally assaulted the man, even though he had not even acknowledged Ankita's presence. The man's only crime was entering the room while Ankita was there. He was then dragged to the basement, where Adhiraaj mutilated him and left him to suffer a slow, agonizing death.
Despite Adhiraaj's torture of the man while Ankita was away, Ankita was horrified to see how Adhiraaj had senselessly beaten the man. The incident haunted her, causing nightmares for the next three weeks whenever she closed her eyes. In the dimly lit room, her gaze landed on the nightstand. She hesitated to turn on the lights, knowing Adhiraaj would come storming in if he discovered them on at this late hour. She was aware he would be awake, engaging in who knows what activities.
Her gaze remained fixed on the mobile phone resting on the nightstand. The image of Shakuntala sending her the phone to stay connected and check on her well-being was etched in her mind. What Shakuntala was not aware of was the turmoil caused by Adhiraaj, who destroyed the phone in a fit of jealousy, believing only he had the right to give Ankita gifts. Witnessing this left Ankita utterly terrified.
He held her tightly as she trembled, trying to soothe her. That night, he stayed by her side, never letting go. The next morning, she woke up to find Adhiraaj staring at her with a sinister look in his eyes and a smirk on his face. Shocked and scared, she gasped at his presence. He smiled, handed her a small gift, and encouraged her to open it. With shaky hands, she unwrapped the box to find the latest iPhone, a model that hadn't even been released yet. She looked back and forth between the phone and Adhiraaj, who was grinning in anticipation.
Even though the phone in her hand represented luxury to Ankita, she couldn't ignore the fact that Adhiraaj may have harmed someone to obtain it. Despite her vow not to use the phone, Adhiraaj manipulated the situation by having Shyamla contact her frequently, forcing Ankita to use the phone against her will. Adhiraaj understood that Ankita wouldn't be able to refuse Shyamla's calls.
She was startled by a thunderclap, which made her hiccup and brought her out of her daze. Ignoring the hiccups, she watched the rain that had started, but the hiccups grew worse with each rumble of thunder. She strode toward the nightstand where a copper jug and a glass were kept. As she lifted the jug, she discovered it was empty. Fear surged through her as she realized she needed to cross to the other side of the door, which was dark.
