Fortune Cookie - Short Story

Part title

It finally happened. The first date with her best friend ever. Alyssa pulled up her hair into a ponytail and straightened the tail. She slipped into her favorite red dress and threw on her sparkly silver heels. Ding Dong! She grabbed her small purse and jumped down the stairs. Alyssa swung open the door and saw her best friend standing there in the most handsome outfit she had ever seen. She had the biggest smile on her face as Thomas held out his hand for her to grab. Alyssa grabbed it and squeezed it tight. "You ready?" Thomas said. Smiling, Alyssa nodded and walked towards the car with Thomas following her from behind.
They sat down at a small, cute table in Wang Chung's Chinese and ordered a plate of noodles and orange chicken. Alyssa looked up from the food and saw Thomas staring at her. She raised an eyebrow and said, "Is there something on my face?" Thomas replied saying, "No there isn't. I'm just admiring your beauty. You're so cute I can't resist looking." Alyssa flushed red and put her bang behind her ear. Thomas laughed. The waitress came over and took away their plate and put two fortune cookies with their bill. Thomas flipped out his wallet while Alyssa ripped open the fortune cookie. She threw the cookie into her mouth and looked at the fortune.
Alyssa's eyes became huge as she read the following: "Your life is in danger. Say nothing to anyone. You must leave the city immediately and never return. Repeat: say nothing." She looked up and saw Thomas happily gnawing on his fortune cookie. He smiled and then saw her face and raised his eyebrows. "What happened? Bad fortune?" Alyssa stood there, still wide eyed. She shook her head and said, "No um... Nothing happened I promise." Thomas stuck out his hand and said, "Could I see your fortune?" She quickly shook her head again and ripped it up. "Oh it was just a stupid fortune so don't worry about it." She got up and tossed it into the waste bin and headed outside. It was pouring rain outside and the last things she heard was Thomas calling her name, a scream, and a gunshot.
