(If Yamaguchi had a younger brother!) Chapter 11

We've finally won. After a horrifyingly long match I never thought I'd long for sleep.

I always hated sleeping. I looked for many ways to keep me up every night since I was 9, up until now. I read books, reread them, or walk around the house. The backyard was a must to visit every night since there were fireflies and the stary night sky that I'd call my first love. Anyway, back at the end of the match.

[Karasuno wins the match against Johzenji for the first round! Well, that was a no brainer, since Karasuno is one of the best schools out there!]

Karasuno won, 2 sets out of 2. The scores for both sets showing = 21-25, and 26-24.

"Let's go team, we have to line up now and congratulate Johzenji for their hard work." Katsu paced back onto the court after taking a sip of the drink bottle he was given from Chika whilst waving his hand for us to follow.

I was jogging next to Shigeo, heading back to the lineup, when Uchi came up from behind and ruffed our hair. "Ah, Uchi. What are you doing?" I asked as he came in between us.

"Hah! Are you guys tired or what? I could probably still play another match or two if we had the time!" He laughed, holding his hands by his hips like superman then close to his stomach, thinking we didn't notice.

Uchi had looked as if he was going to collapse, but Shigeo had noticed earlier and caught his arms just in time. "Uchido, I think your out of breath already. Take a break, rest and eat up."

He needed the most sleep and food since he wasn't used to playing such volleyball games like these. I mean, he participated in middle school matches, but he spent most of the time on the bench, so he hasn't experienced the exhausted we regulars have bore. Despite being a bench player during my middle school years, I occasionally filled in for absent or injured teammates, so I understand the fatigue firsthand, particularly from closely observing Tadashi's matches and witnessing the weary expressions of each player.

I assisted Shigeo in supporting Uchi as we made our way onto the court to form a line and offer congratulations to the opposing team, aware that Uchi's body was quite weak and tired.

"Thank you for the match!" Both teams bowed in unison.

Behind us, the remainder of Karasuno's cheer squad, including Saeko with her Taiko drum team, Mr. Shimada, and Mr. Takinoue, were present to observe and support us.

Ever since Tadashi and Tsukishima's first year, those three have consistently attended Karasuno's matches. Saeko has been bringing her Taiko drum team to support the team from their first national's appearance, oh so long ago.

"Yeah! Great work you guys! You all did so great! Keep up the great work!" Shouted Saeko from the stands. She, Mr. Shimada and Mr. Takinoue were waving at the rest of us, calling our attention.

The team looked back and bowed to the rest of our cheer team, for supporting us during the matches. "Thank you all for cheering and supporting us today!" Yelled Katsu and Masato.

Katsu turned to the rest of us, looking all so serious and stern. He informed us, "Time to head out now, another match will be starting here shortly. Come on! Don't slack of just yet!"

"That's right, let's all go back to our locker room now." Coach Ukai had continued.

Shigeo walked close to my right. It looked like he wanted to say something important to me.  "Hey, Yokota?" Shigeo tapped my shoulder, moving closer to whisper something more.

"Hm?"

"Normally after matches, Katsu would still be lively and all. But now it's different-"

"You two! Hurry up! Stop slacking off!" Katsu yelled at us from the front as he was carrying the other towels.
