An hour has passed since the defeat of Ilia and Blake Belladonna by the Boss of the Valkyries. The Boss and Blace stand at the front steps to the mansion, waiting for Qrow to arrive. Some of the Boss's underlings had tied up the unconscious terrorists, so that when they wake, they can't easily escape. The rain was starting to pick up, but they had a roof over their heads at least. Blace was inspecting his chainsword as the Boss was just smoking a cigarette, staring into the rainy distance.
"...What went wrong, boy?"
Blace's cat ears twitched in the Boss's direction. It was a very unexpected question. Why would a gangster want to know his past and his relationship with his sister? He couldn't see how the man could benefit from it, so he talked.
"Adam Taurus, the Vale branch's leader. Our Dad used to be the High Leader when it was a peace group, but being all about peace wasn't getting most of the Faunus's desires fast enough. They didn't want a slow turn of politics. They wanted change at THAT moment, that they could see with their eyes. Subtle changes weren't enough, especially for...Sienna."
The man sat down on the steps and continued looking out in the distance. He didn't look like he was listening, but this was all interesting to him. He didn't usually work with Faunus. The Valkyries have been a crime family for generations. It was written in the original rules that it was humans only. They wanted to stay faithful, so hearing about Faunus politics from someone so deeply rooted into it was intriguing and eye opening.
"Sienna Khan was the White Fang's first "true leader", because now my Dad is the chieftain of Menagerie. She doesn't want humans dead or as lessers or slaves...she wants what my Dad and most Faunus want. Equality and peace. She's just willing to push back to get it. For every hit humanity dishes, the White Fang hits back equally as hard. Things became a bit more radical when Adam rose in power and influence. I don't even know if Sienna agrees with Adam's views. I only met her a few times in my time there, but she wouldn't instigate what he did."
At least that's what he believes. There aren't many people sick enough in the head to think attacking a huntsmen academy would do many favors.
"...you got sidetracked. What makes you and your sister so different. You said it involves Adam Taurus."
"O-Oh, right, sorry." Blace clears his throat and shrinks his weapon to its necklace form and puts it around his neck. "He manipulated me, Blake and Ilia to join the White Fang, making it sound like we were just fighting racist humans. Blake would join him on the field more while I sat back doing more "recon"...except for one day. We broke into some kinda facility in Vale. Still not 100% on what it was...but Adam told us they were scientists working for Atlas, creating some kind of chemical weapon to use against Faunus that utilized dust. When we went in there...Adam and Blake had started killing..."
He runs a hand through his hair and gently holds one of his cat ears for comfort.
"I didn't lay a finger on them. I sat back and just...watched. Things didn't look right. Feel right. When everything was said and done, and they started stealing all the dust, I did some digging. They were just factory workers for Vale. There was no special gig. Nothing hidden. They were just people with lives, caught in the eyes of two animalistic psychopaths. And I still struggle to sleep sometimes knowing I was involved in that...in ANYTHING White Fang related. If...if the "only way" to save our people from being treated as lesser is to do...that...then I want nothing to do with it. Nothing to do with my species. We're still mostly human anyways...I can deal with that..."
To hear a Faunus be that ashamed of where he came from surprised the Boss. He didn't think anyone would hate that that much. In society, being a Faunus was, at best, nothing special, and life threatening at worst, but there were good physical benefits with the traits.
