"I'm techno." the brunette said. "I know." replied the blonde. They were sat in a cafe, techno playing with his fork nervously, while Dream just watched the man, a soft look in his eyes. It was only their first date, and yet Dream acted like he had been married to techno for hundreds of years. Because they had. Dream and Techno were gods, cursed in an unending loop of suffering. They were soulmates, made to fall in love the moment they laid eyes on eachother. But the curse was always there. Because always after Dream and Techno decided to become partners, techno would die, and Dream would live on. The blonde was immortal. Techno was not.
Dream had seen techno over and over again for thousands of years. Sometimes he wore glasses. Sometimes he had pink hair. But it had always been techno. Dream liked this techno look that had slowly developed. Just a simple black hoodie, messy hair, and crooked eyeglasses."um, what do ye' like?" Techno said nervously. Dream smiled. "Cats. playing games. Drawing. Brunettes." Techno blushed.
Every time techno'd die, he'd come back after ten years. Always in his twenties, the same age that dream was forever stuck as. He couldn't avoid him. One time, Dream saw techno in a crowd in Rome, and turned heel. He knew that if he and techno saw each other, they'd die. But it didn't work. Even though he went as far as he could, he met techno again, as a lone hunter living alone in iceland. He died from a bear attack.
"I just wanted to um- say that yer' eyes are very pretty." techno said nervously. Dream smiled. Techno was always terrible at dating. "You're the prettiest thing I've ever seen all day." Techno went red, and dream chuckled. He meant it. He always meant it. He was also sure the curse was meant to torture him. Techno never remembered what happened, he was always cheery and perfect and how he always was, whenever they met. Dream, on the other hand, had to see it all. Techno dying in the middle of a field. Techno getting vaporized by a shell. Techno dying from the plague. He'd tried everything to stop techno's death, every time, but had given up by the 18th century.
The date had gone well, Dream and Techno were sitting on the top of their car, watching the sunset, Techno leaned in for a kiss, and Dream didn't respond. "Babe, what's wrong?" he said softly, rubbing the blonde's hands. "I've killed you." Dream stared at the sun, slowly dropping over the horizon, and sighed at techno's questioning look. "You'll think I'm crazy." techno did think he was crazy. The many times before he had tried to tell him. "I won't, babe. Trust me. Ye' love me, don't you?" Dream nodded. Of course he did. So he told Techno.
It took a bit for techno to believe him, but at least it took less than a day, like it did with some other technos. "So, I'm... doomed to die." Dream nodded. "And I killed you, by agreeing to date you." "Well, don't be like THAT." Techno smacked dream in the side, and Dream chuckled sadly. "How do ye know that it's ye that causes my death? Maybe I'm just doomed to die at the fine age of 23." Dream opened his mouth to answer, but Techno stopped him. "Or maybe I can avoid death this time. Make sure I don't go anywhere dangerous." "You were killed by a house fire in your own house." Dream whispered, and Techno hummed, tapping his chin, that reminded Dream of the technos he had met in greece. He was so smart back then. And still smart now.
"What if we bought a bunch of good luck charms? Fight magic with magic, y'know?" Dream paused. "I think we tried-" Techno pulled Dream into a kiss, before sitting back. "Shut up." Dream's face was pink, and techno chuckled. "You just have to believe in me, okay? I'm not just going to die out of nowhere."
Why did Dream think this techno was any different? They were never different. They always died. His hand held tight to techno's, techno's hand cold and clammy. The heart monitor beeped slowly, and techno's eyes were closed, as he weakly breathed. The doctors said he wouldn't survive the night. Dream crawled onto the bed, holding tight to his soulmate. He wished he could die right alongside him. He wished he could move on from this horrible life. Techno's mouth opened, as he struggled to make a sound, and Dream clutched his hand. "S....sss-sorry." Techno said weakly, his eyes fluttering. Dream's tears hit his pale cheeks. "It's not your fault." he whispered, as the heart monitor's beeps lengthened into a continuous sound. "It was never your fault." he sobbed, as Techno's last breath failed to finish.
