Techno stared at the book he was reading. "ha-na-ha-ki." he said, pronouncing the word. "the disease of unrequited love." techno coughed, a few yellow dandelion petals slipping out of his mouth, and he quickly brushed them away. he glanced up at the picture frame hanging on the wall. of him and Dream, smiling at the camera. but dream's smile... looked more forced then genuine, like techno's was. "i guess you don't love me back.." techno mumbled, coughing again. this time, it was worse. he coughed and coughed, petals spilling out of his mouth onto his palms, before finally, a full flower. dandelion, the same flower that he kept coughing up. "dream? what's your favorite flower?" techno asked, smiling. "oh." Dream shrugged. "dandelions, i guess. they're nice and simple." techno shook off the memory, wiping the blood from his mouth. he opened the book to a page, reading the instructions. 'Hanahaki Disease is a disease where the victim of unrequited or one-sided love begins to vomit or cough up the petals and flowers of a flowering plant growing in their lungs, which will eventually grow large enough to render breathing impossible if left untreated. There is no set time for how long this disease lasts but there is no specific cure: It will heal on its own if the feelings are returned, or if the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear. It may also be removed by having the love requited. If the victim dies, the plants will wilt and fade away. ' techno scoffed. "so my life is on the line, or the person i love stops loving me." he laughed humorlessly. "great choices.." he closed the book, coughing into his hand, another dandelion falling onto his desk. "fuck.." he cursed, getting up. he took the book with him, grabbing his cloak. he threw the cape over himself, hiding the blood stains on his clothes. "i'm going out." techno muttered, walking out the door. Steve, his polar bear, nudged techno's leg, and techno gave him a small scratch on the head, before walking out the door. the cold nipped at his face, but he kept going, his boots leaving footprints in the snow. the wind blew the red cloak around him, making it billow in the wind. the snowflakes landed on his nose and pink hair, and the only sound that could be heard was the sound of his footsteps.

"Techno!" Dream said excitedly, running up to him. "guess what?" "what?" Techno said, looking tired. "me and fundy are getting married!" "oh.." Techno said, giving a slight smile, and a dandelion petal slipped from his lips. Dream frowned. "have- have you been eating dandelions? you certainly do smell like them. ooh! you know how they're my favorite flower, right? can you get me a bunch of perfect ones, to decorate my wedding?" "yeah.. yeah, sure, i can do that." Techno said, smiling widely, a fake, cheerful tone to his voice. "that's great, i'm so excited!" Dream said. "well, i should go now, fundy and i are going to talk about wedding stuff." he hugged techno quickly. "see ya." Techno hugged him back, and a few tears fell. "bye.." he mumbled, waving to him. techno walked to a secluded pond. perfect flowers. for Dream. he took a deep breath, and coughed up a flower. it was perfect, in every way, apart from a few specks of blood, he put it aside, preparing to cough up another. after a few hours, he had finished, and there was a large pile of over a thousand dandelion flowers in front of him. he put them into a wagon, and took them to dream's house, and put a note on it, saying "here's the flowers -t." he had considered putting a heart, but he quickly scribbled it out. he left the note on the wagon, and knocked on dream's door, before leaving. "hey, Fundy, can you get the door?" Dream called. "yeah, just a sec!" fundy said, jogging over to the door. he opened it, and looked around, confused. "uh, who's this from, dream?" he called. dream came to the door, and stared at the wagon. "it's- it's from techno." Dream said, smiling slightly. "aww, that's so nice of him." he said, picking up the note, and taking the wagon inside. "who's techno?" Fundy asked, following him inside. "oh, he's- uh, i'll tell you later." dream said, smiling awkwardly. fundy shrugged. "alright. well, thanks for the flowers." Dream smiled. "of course, anything for you." "what'd the note say?" Fundy asked, looking over his shoulder. "he said 'here's the flowers.'" dream said. "that's all." fundy nodded, and kissed him. "i'm gonna go back to working on the invitations." he said, smiling. "alright." Dream said, hugging him. Fundy waved to him, and walked away. Dream sighed, sitting down on the couch. he stared at the note, at the crossed out blob next to the neat cursive. had he meant to write something else? no, he probably hadn't. but it felt like it. like he had tried to write something, and then had second thoughts, and decided against it. but dream didn't want to think about that. dream went to look over at the flowers. they were beautiful. and it was so thoughtful of him to collect all those flowers, and it must've taken him a while. he could smell the sweet scent of the flowers, and they were so vibrant. until his eyes fell on the dark red splatters, that dotted a majority of the flowers. it didn't look like paint, and the color was too vibrant. dream frowned, picking up a few of the flowers. it was definitely blood. but how did it get there? was it techno's blood? the thought made dream frown. techno seemed healthy when dream had seen him, and he had acted normally. was he okay? why was there so much blood? and why would he give dream the flowers, knowing there was blood on them? why would he ruin such a thoughtful gesture, by adding blood? Was it symbolism? Techno always was weirdly cryptic about random things. maybe dream was overthinking it. it was probably just a coincidence. dream took a deep breath, and went to put the flowers in a vase, trying not to think about it. the day of the wedding arrived, and Dream was getting ready, with the help of fundy and some other friends. dream put on his white suit, and fundy helped him with his tie. "you look amazing." fundy said, kissing him. dream kissed him back, smiling. "thanks." they both walked out, and everyone was there. "well, this is it." Dream said, smiling. Fundy smiled, and kissed him. "i'm so happy i'm marrying you." he said. "me too." Dream said, kissing him again. Fundy pulled him in for a hug, and they both started crying. "i love you." Fundy said. "i love you too." Dream said, squeezing him. Fundy sniffled, wiping his eyes. "c'mon, let's go." "wait." Dream said, and looked around. "where's Techno? shouldn't he be here?" Fundy shrugged. "don't worry, i'm sure he'll be here soon." Dream nodded, and they walked down the aisle, hand in hand. everyone cheered, and Fundy and Dream smiled, as they stood at the altar, ready to be married. and then the door of the cathetral opened, and techno walked in, looking... wrong. his eyes had bags under them. blood dripped from his mouth. there were dandelion petals everywhere, and he looked like he was struggling to breathe. and he looked... sickly. his face was pale, and his eyes were dull. and he looked exhausted. like he hadn't slept in days. everyone looked at him, shocked. but Dream and Fundy kept their smiles. "i'd- i'd like to make a speech. to congratulate the lovers." he said, and coughed. a lot. and everyone stared. blood spilled onto the floor, and the entire place went silent. and Dream realized. He'd seen this disease before, dandelions and all, on George. techno wasn't sick. he was dying. because of him. because Dream didn't love him. he loved fundy. he loved fundy, and not techno. and the guilt weighed heavy on his chest. "congratulations.." techno said, his voice hoarse, and his hands shook, as he coughed again. "dream, i have to admit something. i love you. i love you so much. but i know you don't love me. and that's okay. i'm just- i'm just glad you're happy. and so, dream, i wish you a happy life, the perfect love, the perfect legacy, as my last wish for you. goodbye, Dream." he collapsed, coughing, and dream caught him, cradling him in his arms. blood covered the white floor, and dandelions fell from his mouth. "Techno? techno!" Dream yelled. techno looked up at him, and he was crying. tears rolled down his cheeks, and the blood on his mouth smeared, as he spoke. "Dream.." "shh, techno, you'll be okay." dream said, stroking his hair, as the blood dripped onto his hands. "i'm sorry." techno said. and dream didn't understand, not until the dandelions were pulled out of his mouth, and his lips were blue, and his body was still. "techno? techno!" Dream shouted, shaking him. but techno didn't move, didn't breathe. he was dead. and everyone was silent. and the tears ran down Dreams face. and the flowers. the flowers of realization and sadness and guilt. and love. "so, what about you? what's your favorite flower?" Dream asked. Techno shrugged. "poppies, i guess. they're cool." scarlet poppies burst from dream's mouth, filling his body, fueled by feelings. and in less than a second, the two lovers, never aware of eachother's love, reunited.
