Before Snape had the time to say anything, Mr. Filch happened to walk in and ordered us to hurry up and head straight to the library. So we did. After the gates to the Restricted Section screeched close when the Caretaker left us alone, the Slytherin and I stare at each other across the aisle. He's clearly waiting for me to speak first. My heart is pounding, cheeks flushing slightly red, wondering if all of this really is a bad idea. But... I need tutoring. From someone like him. I pushed down my nerves and start:"I... I wished you could help me wi..-", "Not interested." he simply reply with coldness in his tone. What? For a moment I stare at him, trying to figure out what to say or do to make him change his mind. There must be a way..- "And there's nothing you can say or do to change my mind." he added.
My eyes shoots wide open when he said that. Then I remembered he can read minds, and quickly covered my ears – like that would block him:"EY! Stop that!". Snape turned his head away and let out a chuckle like noise:"Covering your ears won't do anything. It's that rotten brain of yours that's the problem.". Huh? Without another word or any glance, the Slytherin began to sort out his pile of books, and I stare at him for a moment longer before focusing on my own pile. Few minutes goes by, and I again start:"You could at least teach me Legl..-", "No." he again reply. Hmph. Another moment passed. "There must be something you want." I hesitatingly start wondering without looking at his direction. No answer. He pretends like he can't hear me and keeps on placing the book to the shelf in front of him. "...And I could help you with that." I raised my gaze towards him. "There's nothing I want, nor anything you can help me with." he again reply without looking at me. "Not even with Lily?" I dared to point out.
Saying her name made him pause his hand movement as he was just about to push one of the small books to its place. "I don't know what you are talking about." he sigh quietly and keeps on doing what he's doing. Liar. This small frown jumps on my face:"I might not be able to read other people's minds like you do. But I do know when someone is having crush on someone. And... I could help you to get closer to her.". Snape slightly turned his head towards my way and raised an eyebrow. Seems like I finally caught his interest. "Only if you'll help me tutor me to get better grades, that is." I added. There is a pause. He keeps on staring at me. Like he's calculating something. "Very well." he agreed. Both of my eyebrows shoots up:"Really?". "I'll tutor you, if you'll keep your promise and keep that overly large mouth of yours shut about this." he glares.
This overwhelming bubbly feeling fills me up and if I would have been standing any closer to him, I might have jumped for a hug. But instead, I stand still as this huge smile raises up on my face:"That's brilliant! Thank you so much, Severus!". Calling him by first name made him make a face of disapproval, but I ignore this and keep on talking:"Oh, this is going to be great! On the name of all of my savings, I won't let you down. Mark my words! I'm pretty good when it comes to love. I actually..-", "Tutor lesson number one; Spare me from the details of your personal life. It has no value to me in any shape or form." Snape bluntly interrupts with the monotonic tone. My shoulders goes down a bit:"Oh...". Guess he's right. He doesn't need to get to know me when it comes to tutoring. Just when Snape is about to open his mouth to say something, Mr. Filch shouts at the gates:"Ya two!". Immediately, Snape and I turned our heads towards the Caretaker, taken a bit back he's already back. "To the Great Hall. Now. Headmaster's orders." the old man tells. Huh?
As confused as everyone else around the castle, we all entered the Great Hall and went to sit down around our own House's tables. The room is filled with confused chatter and whispers. Some of the people have already changed their clothes in casual ones, some of us are still wearing the school uniform. What's going on? All of the professors behind the High Table got more serious looks on their faces, like they already know what this is all about. "(Y/N)." Tonks waves at me to come sit beside her among her friends. I'm a bit hesitant what to do here, since her friends doesn't seem to like the idea of me joining them, but when Dumbledore walked behind the podium and started to greet us all, I quickly go sit next to her. The whole place quickly quiets down. In a quick second I see all of the familiar faces looking at the High Table's direction – James Potter and his friends included around the Gryffindor's table. Snape in the Slytherin's table. And Lockhart in the Raveclaw's.
The Headmaster takes a small moment to look at us all in front of him before he starts:"Firstly, I do apologize for the sudden gathering out of the blue at this time of the evening, and I know many of you are eager to start your weekend, but I have an important announce to make to you all.". Little whispers can be heard around the Great Hall, but as soon as Dumbledore continues, everyone shuts their mouths. "Secondly, I wanna tell you all that there's nothing to be worried about, but... We have been informed that there are some Dark Wizards that calls themselves Death Eaters. And they are wandering around Hogsmeade, near the castle's groundings." his voice echoed around the place. What? More intense whispers and wonders. "And I wish, that none of you will test your luck and wander off to Hogsmeade until we have sorted out the problem with our professors and the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. In the time being, we ask you to please stay in Hogwarts and do not leave its groundings." he tells.
A few of the seventh years let out a groan out of annoyance. Guess they had plans on leaving the castle and hang out in Hogsmeade late in the evening. Their frustration won't go pass Dumbledore's notice, and he continues:"I know the frustration in you all, believe me. But we will do everything with our power to bring back the peace, so we can all keep on living like before. So please, be patient. We will be informing you later on. That will be all for now. Thank you and good night.". Great Hall again fills up with chatter and wonders as some of them got up from and began leaving, and some of the students stayed seated. I began to leave the Great Hall as well to get back to the detention. Death Eaters? What are they doing close the school like that? Wonder if my par..- "Oh, Miss (Y/L)!" McGonagall yells over the students and I immediately turned to look at her:"Hm?". People around us make some room as she walks up to me.
"Us professors are going to have a meeting right now – Mr. Filch included, so you and Mr. Snape are dismissed for today. See you on Monday." she tells. "Oh? Okay." I nod and try to hide the excitement. After she leaves by my side, I happen to make eye contact with Snape. He's standing five meters away. Looks like he's already aware of we can start our weekend early. I'm just so happy he'll be helping me. I flash a smile at him, but as expected, the look on his dark face won't change. Then, I hear this familiar voice further away. Both of our attention goes towards the person. It's Lily. She's huffing something about how unfair it is she can't go to Hogsmeade during the weekend like she had planned. Something about how she wanted to buy a new broom from Spintwitches Sporting Needs. While I watch her walking away with her fellow Gryffindor, a light bulb lights up and I rush to her:"Lily!". Snape watches all of this happening from a far, little bit surprised what am I up to now.
Lily turns to me:"Yes?". "I was just wondering... About what you said wanting to learn more about Herbology." I began, and she gives a nod to her friend so she can leave us alone. When she left, Lily tilted her head, ready to hear more:"Yes?". "Well, if you want... I could teach you some." I smile while nervously fidgeting my fingers against my robe's hem. "Really? Oh, that would be so great!" she smiles back. "Brilliant!" I gasp out – little bit too eagerly. "I mean..- Great. I guess I'll see you on Monday then?" I quickly correct and try to act casual. "Uhm, Monday doesn't work for me. Got Quidditch after the classes. Tuesday?" she asked. "Oh, sure. That works." I nod. "Great. If we won't see each other before that, I'll send you an owl and we'll check the time and where to meet. Sounds good?" she starts walking away. "Y-yes! Let's do that!" I keep on smiling. "Bye." she gives a quick smile back and rushed to her friend who seemed to be waiting on her this whole time little bit further away. "Bye." my voice sounds like a whisper as I watch her walking away – slowly disappearing in the swarm of other students.
To be able to get Snape together with Lily, I first need to get closer to her, so I can plant the seed for her to see him as someone she could eventually date. Wonder how am I going to do that?Well, I got a whole weekend to figure out what I'm going to say, to bring someone as sour person as Snape into a good light. Shouldn't be that hard. ...Right...? After she vanished from my sight, I turned to look over the shoulder and see the familiar Slytherin staring at me over the sea of other students that are walking by. I flash him reassuring smile and give him a thumbs up to show him everything's going to be alright. That he can count on me. Snape only rolled his eyes before he left. Weekend, here I come!
