Friday ran a hand through her hair.
'Are you sure? He didn't have any other name or anything else people called him?'
'I'm sorry Friday, but there really is nothing else other than Jack that I know him by. Grace didn't call him anything else.' Eden's said, her voice crackling as it came through the phone.
Stupid Interpol reception.
Friday sighed. They had found nothing in the records room and now she was left without an identification file. She was stuck. Again.
'Um. Ok. Thanks Eden.' She said, defeated.
Eden said goodbye, hanging up the call.
Nobody said anything. Nobody had any idea what they could do.
'We could....go through her phone? Call some people?' Morgan suggested.
Friday nodded. She had no more strings to this case. Morgan's idea was a weak one, but it was better than nothing.
Morgan and Melanie went to collect Grace's phone from evidence and Friday sat on the floor in front of the coffee table.
Ian dug around in Morgan and Mack's pantry and came over with a croissant. He handed it to Friday, then sat down next to her.
Friday smiled at him, breaking the croissant in half and giving one side to him.
When Morgan and Melanie came back, they had the phone in hand. Melanie handed it to Friday, who opened it and went to contacts.
Graces phone had been kept exactly the same. Her wallpaper was of her and Eden and all her friends in what looked to be a park.
The contacts were in alphabetical order and Friday clicked on the first one she saw. Bonnie Mayfield.
It rang for a long time. Friday was sure nobody would pick up and she reached out to hang up.
'Lilith?'
Friday looked up at Ian and Morgan.
Lilith? Who was Lilith?
'Um, no. My name is Friday Barnes. I'm a junior detective with Interpol.'
There was silence for a moment.
'Oh.'
The 'oh' sounded so disappointed.
'What can I help you with Friday? Why do you have Lilith's phone?'
'Um. We have this phone because it was taken from a woman who was found on the side of the road a few months ago. Grace Sinclair.'
Bonnie didn't say anything for a very long time.
'I don't know a Grace Sinclair. And I don't know how she got this phone.'
'How did you know Lilith?' Friday asked, steering the conversation in a different direction.
'We were best friends in high school. But she had a weird relationship with her dad. She did everything for him. And he was really messed up.'
'Messed up how?'
'Well I slept over one night and we were getting changed to go to sleep and he came in with a gun. It was really weird. But Lilith was the best person I'd ever met, so I never told anyone.'
'And this dad, what did he look like?'
'Blonde, wide shoulders, shallow cheeks. Why do you ask?'
Friday looked up to see her friends looking at her friends, to see them all staring back at her. Blonde, wide shoulders, strangely shallow cheeks. That all fit the description of....
'What was the dad's name?'
Friday asked, her adrenaline pumping again.
'Um Jack I think. Jack Sinclair'
