Chapter 004: The First Disappearance
***
JULY 20 1987
When daybreak dawned on Camp Ravenwood, no one knew that anything was wrong. That one of the campers were missing.
For all the campers and counsellors, including Heather Jiao, it was just a normal day in the last week of camp.
Heather sat up with a yawn, strands of hair in front of her face. She brushed them away as she checked to make sure her roommate was still asleep before getting out of her bed and walking to Reese, smiling softly.
"Morning, babe," she murmured, kissing her girlfriend's forehead. Reese's brow crinkled in the adorable way Heather loved as she sat up, rubbing her eyes, the green bonnet she wore while;e she slept still on her head as she registered Heather, and returned her soft smile.
"Morning, Heather," she replied, taking her hand and pressing a kiss to her lips. Golden bubbles fizzed through Heather's bloodstream as she cupped Reese's cheek, her lips soft and sweet on Heather's, tasting faintly of her chapstick, before they broke the kiss, the effervescent morning kiss hanging between them.
"You ready for all the kids?" Reese asked.
Heather only groaned as she laid down on Reese's bed. "No, but I have to be. Sometimes I hate those little hellions."
"No you don't. You love teaching them about science," Reese teased, nudging Heather's body with her foot.
"I'm denying that," Heather said flatly, but a grin flitted across her face as she looked at Reese, her face haloed by the warm sunlight filtering in through the window as her fingers carded through Heather's hair. God, she loved Reese Prescott, she was so glad that she admitted what she'd felt about her two years ago, that they were together, even if they couldn't be openly public.
She just loved Reese so much.
"I love you," Heather murmured.
"I love you too," Reese whispered back, bending over to kiss Heather's forehead. Heather smiled, feeling happy and content. If she could, she would stay in this moment forever.
But it was not to be, as Heather could hear their roommate stirring awake.
Suppressing a groan, Heather got up and looked at Reese. "I'm going to get ready. Need to be prepared for the hellions."
"Good luck," Reese said, smiling. Heather returned it as she got her stuff and unlocked her cabin, heading to the communal showers. Taking a quick shower, Heather dressed in a faded Camp Ravenwood shirt, denim shorts and sneakers, tying up her thick, dark hair into a ponytail, before heading back to her cabin and dumping her pyjamas back on her bed, passing Reese and Paula as they also got ready. Getting her keys for the nature and science cabin, she said over her shoulder, "See you guys at breakfast."
