Chapter 015: Search In The Woods

***

JULY 23RD, 1987

The Colour War had exploded throughout camp once the bell rang for it to begin.

Kids ran about in their bright Renvale yellow and Harmont blue shirts, throwing pouches of yellow or blue paint "colour bombs" at their opponents once they found them in their hiding spots. Paint splattered on faces, hair and clothes, yellow and blue, as those deemed out were sent to the mess hall. So far, Renvale was winning again, but all hope didn't seem lost as the Harmont campers fought valiantly. And amid the throw of paint bombs and delighted shrieks under the watchful gaze of counsellors, the dread and fear of the past four days seemed to ebb away, melting into the twilit air, as Camp Ravenwood became once more what it had always been—a summer camp full of fun and laughter, where nothing bad happened.

But for five campers, they didn't participate in the Colour War, and were instead preparing for something else, like they were about to go on a quest like in one of their campaigns.

To head into the woods, and find the still-missing campers and counsellors.

Betty chewed her fingernails as she and her friends huddled in hers and Luisa's cabin, ready to head into the woods and potentially see a killer right out of a slasher movie and the supernatural entity that the killer sacrificed his kills to. All of them weren't wearing the Colour War shirts and instead more practical outfits for a hike in the woods, flashlights in their hands ready to be flicked on once they went into the woods. Logan's camera was around his neck and Sam had showed off the switchblade he had on him that once belonged to his dad, making Betty be acutely aware of the pocket knife in her own pocket. And Carrie...

"Why do you have a hairspray can, Carrie?" Luisa asked.

Carrie gave a wicked grin as she pulled out a lighter. "Miniature flamethrower, Luisa."

Betty's eyes widened and Sam hissed, "Jesus, Carrie, are you trying to start a forest fire?"

"What? Fire kills everything in horror movies. I'm not letting whatever psycho is in the woods murder me before I burn him alive," Carrie reasoned.

"You really are our Chaotic Neutral rogue," Logan muttered, who looked both alarmed and impressed at what Carrie was bringing to the table. He looked out of the window and observed, "Looks like it's still in full swing. We should be able to slip into the woods."

Looking back at them, he asked, "You guys sure you still want to do this? I can do this myself—"

"Logan, stop. We're not letting you go into the spooky woods on your own," Carrie interrupted, before she grinned. "That's a surefire way to get your ass axe-murdered."

Logan rolled his eyes. "I'm sure I'll survive again, Carrie."

"But she has a point. You're not doing this alone. We're with you," Luisa agreed, crossing her arms. "The Party sticks together, okay?"
