The first light of day filtered through the curtains, soft and golden, illuminating the peaceful quiet of the house. It was a slow morning, the kind Taylor knew Travis needed more than anything. She had woken up long before him, slipping out of bed with careful precision to let him sleep in. He looked so peaceful in his sleep, his broad chest rising and falling steadily, his face relaxed and calm. Today was his 35th birthday, and Taylor wanted it to be perfect, full of moments that made him feel loved and celebrated.
The house was quiet, save for the soft sound of Taylor moving around the kitchen. She was busy putting the finishing touches on the surprise breakfast she'd been planning for days. Pancakes, stacked high with whipped cream, a drizzle of maple syrup, and fresh berries. There were scrambled eggs, cooked just the way he liked them, and crispy bacon. A warm mug of coffee sat on the table, ready for when he finally woke up. But it wasn't just the food she had put thought into—she had gone all out with the setup. Roses, his favorite flowers, even if he teased her about it, were arranged in a vase at the center of the table. Everything felt intentional, carefully chosen for him.
Next to the bouquet sat a small collection of gifts, each one wrapped meticulously with gold and black paper, the colors of his beloved Chiefs. The gifts, though, weren't just any gifts. They were deeply personal and meaningful. Taylor had put hours into thinking about what would mean the most to him. There was a framed collage of pictures—memories they'd made. Moments captured when neither of them were paying attention, those candid photos that showed the true essence of their relationship. The second gift was something even more personal. She had gone through old home videos from his childhood that Donna had shared with her. With the help of a videographer, she created a documentary-style film that showcased his journey—from his early days playing football in the backyard with Jason to becoming the man he was now.
The last gift, though, was her favorite. In a small velvet box lay a silver ring, simple yet elegant, with their initials "T&T" engraved on the inside. It was a symbol of their love, a constant reminder of how intertwined their lives had become. She knew Travis didn't care for flashy jewelry, but she wanted him to have something that represented them.
As she placed the last of the gifts on the table, Taylor tiptoed back to the bedroom, a soft smile playing on her lips. She sat down on the edge of the bed, running a hand through his tousled hair.
"Morning, birthday boy," she whispered, leaning in to kiss his cheek.
Travis stirred, a sleepy smile spreading across his face before his eyes blinked open. "Morning, baby," he mumbled, his voice deep and groggy, still heavy with sleep.
"I let you sleep in, but it's time to get up," she teased, playfully tugging at the covers.
He groaned, pulling her back into bed and wrapping his arms around her. "Do I have to? Can't we just stay here all day?"
Taylor laughed, leaning into his embrace. "I have big plans for you today. But maybe we can start the morning like this." She kissed him softly, their lips lingering together for a moment before she pulled back.
After a bit of convincing, Travis finally rolled out of bed. When he walked into the kitchen, his eyes lit up at the sight of the breakfast spread she had prepared. His gaze moved to the gifts on the table, and then to the flowers.
"Wow, Tay, you really went all out," he said, pulling her into a hug from behind, his lips brushing her neck. "This looks amazing."
She smiled, turning in his arms to face him. "Only the best for you."
They sat down together, enjoying the meal Taylor had made. Travis couldn't stop smiling between bites, cracking jokes and teasing her. The moment felt perfect, relaxed, and intimate.
