It was early, the house still quiet with the soft blanket of dawn just beginning to settle over the world outside. Taylor woke suddenly, feeling a wave of nausea hit her like a forceful tide. Her stomach churned, and she swallowed, trying to breathe through the feeling, but it quickly became unbearable. She sat up quickly, pushing herself out of bed, careful not to wake Travis, who was still soundly asleep beside her. The bathroom wasn't familiar to her, and in her panic, she fumbled to remember where it was.
The last thing she wanted was to open the wrong door and wake up Jason or Kylie, or even Travis's parents. She could barely think straight, so she made a beeline for the one place she knew she wouldn't disturb anyone: the kitchen.
Rushing downstairs, she reached the sink just in time and doubled over, nausea crashing through her. She clung to the counter for support as she emptied her stomach, feeling the world spin around her. The cold metal against her forehead as she leaned over was a small relief, but she felt weak and alone. In the quiet aftermath, she closed her eyes, wishing she hadn't had to leave the warmth of Travis's arms for this.
Then she heard footsteps, soft but unmistakable. Her heart sank, embarrassed that someone had heard her.
"Oh no, I woke someone up," she muttered to herself, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
"Tay? Are you okay?" It was Kylie, her voice soft but filled with worry as she stepped into the kitchen, eyeing Taylor with concern.
Taylor took a shaky breath and turned to face her, feeling more vulnerable than she liked to admit. "I... I don't know. I've been feeling so sick, especially in the mornings, and I don't really know what to do anymore," she admitted quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kylie's expression softened, and she studied Taylor for a moment, as if considering something. "This might sound a bit out of the blue, but have you thought about... well, the possibility that you might be pregnant?"
Taylor blinked, surprised. The thought hadn't even crossed her mind, but now that Kylie mentioned it, her symptoms did seem to line up. "Oh... I don't know. I mean, I haven't really thought about it. My period's been late, but I just thought... maybe it was stress or something."
A soft smile crossed Kylie's face. "I actually think I have a test upstairs in my bathroom. If you want to take it, it's here... but no pressure, obviously," she offered gently.
Taylor hesitated but eventually nodded, the feeling of uncertainty too overwhelming to ignore. "I think... maybe I should take it," she mumbled, feeling a new wave of nervousness hit her as the reality of the situation sank in.
She tried to steady herself, but the panic grew in her chest, her mind racing with worry. "What if Travis doesn't want this? What if I ruin everything?" Her voice cracked, her fear spilling over.
Kylie took a step closer, putting a comforting hand on Taylor's shoulder. "Hey, don't worry, Tay. Travis would be over the moon. He's talked about this before, you know? And besides, he's the kind of guy who'll stand by you through anything," she reassured her.
The two of them made their way quietly upstairs, and Taylor slipped into the bathroom with the test in hand. It was a long five minutes, maybe the longest of her life, filled with worry, nerves, and even a glimmer of hope that she didn't know she had. She glanced at the test, heart racing as she read the result.
Positive.
The word hit her like a wave, and she sat down slowly, her mind spinning as tears filled her eyes. It was overwhelming, but there was a sweetness to the moment that made her feel an odd sense of calm. She took a deep breath, grounding herself, before calling out.
"Kylie? Can you come here, please?"
Kylie entered the bathroom, and Taylor held up the test, her eyes shimmering with emotion as the reality set in. Without missing a beat, Kylie wrapped her in a warm hug, her embrace filled with reassurance and joy.
"Congratulations," Kylie whispered, her own eyes misting up. "You're going to be an amazing mom, Tay."
Taylor's hands trembled slightly as she held the test, wondering how she would tell Travis. She knew she wanted the moment to be special, something they would both remember forever.
Later that morning, after freshening up, Taylor walked back to their bedroom where Travis was just beginning to stir. Sunlight spilled softly into the room, and he blinked awake, his face lighting up the moment he saw her.
"Hey, you're up early," he murmured, pulling her into his arms as she nestled beside him, the warmth of his embrace making her momentarily forget her nerves.
"Yeah... I had a bit of a wake-up call," she replied with a soft smile, her heart racing as she looked up at him, wondering how best to share the news.
Travis tilted his head, catching the hint of something in her tone. "Is everything okay?" he asked, concern filling his gaze.
Taylor bit her lip, taking a deep breath as she held the test behind her back, her fingers gripping it tightly for support. She looked up at him, her voice soft and steady as she finally spoke.
"I have something to show you," she said, her heart thumping as she pulled the test from behind her, holding it up for him to see.
Travis looked at the test, his expression shifting as he registered what it meant. For a moment, there was only silence, his eyes widening as he took in the word on the test.
"Wait... are you—?" His voice trailed off, his hand reaching up to cradle her face, his expression a mixture of shock, joy, and awe.
She nodded, tears filling her eyes as she whispered, "Yeah... we're going to have a baby."
For a moment, he was speechless, his eyes locked on hers before he broke into a huge grin, pulling her into a tight embrace, his face buried in her neck as he let out a shaky breath. "Oh my God, Tay," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "We're... we're having a baby."
She laughed through her tears, hugging him back just as tightly, feeling the warmth of his love surround her. He pulled back slightly, brushing his thumb over her cheek as he looked into her eyes, his own filled with tears. "I can't believe it. This is... this is the best news of my life."
His hand drifted down to her stomach, resting there gently, as if trying to connect with the little life growing inside. He leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to her stomach before looking up at her with a grin.
"I love you so much, Tay," he whispered, his voice full of promise and joy.
The two of them spent the morning in a quiet bliss, their secret held just between them as they stayed close, talking softly and making plans for the future. They imagined the kind of parents they would be, the life they would build, and the dreams they would share.
The rest of the family would have to wait to hear the news, but for now, it was a precious moment just for the two of them—a quiet morning filled with love, hope, and the promise of something beautiful to come.
