I Loathe You

Chapter Eight

Now that Queen Cara and King Sebastian had been dating a while, it became the talk of the kingdoms. They were both looking forward to the last celebratory ball at Lady Emilia's estate. This would be the last celebration of Queen Cara becoming the new Queen of Aureum, and the first celebration of her and King Sebastian being out in public. The last thing on her mind was what King Michele would have to say about it. Her walls were still up and her heart was protected, but the more she got to know King Sebastian, the more she liked him. This did not remove her intentions at making sure King Michele suffered for hurting her deeply, and for finding out what Riley Warp was truly up to in her plans. As they walked into Lady Emilia's estate together, all eyes were on them. (Lady Emilia): "Your majesties! Welcome! We have arranged two specially made seats for you and food will be served momentarily" (Queen Cara): "Thank you, Lady Emilia. Everything looks magnificent" She thanks both of them and is dismissed. The chandeliers caught the Queen's eye. Golden-yellow in adoration of not only Aureum but Queen Cara's eye colour. Something about this ball felt like it was ending the nervous feeling of stepping into the waters of being Queen, and finally taking on the role into bigger variations. King Sebastian proceeded to hold Queen Cara's hand as they were mingling. (King Sebastian): "Your people adore you, your grace. It's very admirable" (Queen Cara): "The ladies in the court seem to have their eyes on you as well, your grace" (King Sebastian): "Eyes may linger onto me but as far as I am concerned, we are the only ones in this grand hall" He gently lifts her hand and kisses it, then continues walking hand-in-hand with one another. He always knew the right thing to say and his loyalty was something that she had never experienced before. In the weeks up to the last celebratory ball, they had spent a lot of time together. Even Mrs Jenson approved of him and if it were up to her, the Queen and he would be married at once. Unfortunately for Mrs Jenson, it was not up to her decision. (Queen Cara): "How do you do it?" (King Sebastian): "Do what, your grace?" (Queen Cara): "Manage a young woman with major trust issues in a relationship. You seem to be calm and understanding. How?" (King Sebastian): "What I have learned these last five years is that life can be painful and unjust. People can let us down when we only see the best in them. That brings about trust issues in all of us, but letting ourselves be ruled by fear of history repeating itself might only lead to the latter. So, I choose to live life with hope and sincerity. Even if it disappoints me in the end" (Queen Cara): "You inspire me, your grace. How you are able to see things so clearly is astonishing" (King Michele): "Your majesties, may I have a word with the Queen?" (King Sebastian): "That is entirely up to the Queen to decide. I do not make decisions for her" (Queen Cara): "Very well. You have five minutes" Kissing King Sebastian on the cheek, Queen Cara walks with King Michele. In their time together, he learned that she is a determined and powerful woman. She does not like it when people make choices for her. Deciding whether or not she may speak to someone is especially blood-boiling to her. King Michele had the audacity to pull her aside when he knew that she is not in the mood for his confusing tactics. (Queen Cara): "What do you want now? Get on with it! I don't have all day to entertain desperation" (King Michele): "Him? What do you see in him?" (Queen Cara): "Well, for starters, he doesn't have a wife and child. That could make for a particularly attractive suitor" (King Michele): "Cara..." (Queen Cara): "Queen Cara Patricia Gold of Aureum. If I have to remind you one more time, I will have your head cut off. You may be a King but I am THE QUEEN" (King Michele): "I deeply apologize, my Queen. You have to understand that despite the circumstances..." (Queen Cara): "Despite the...? Wow. Almost erasing the fact that your impregnated dog lies at home waiting on your puppies to be birthed just so you can have five seconds of touching my lips once more. You disgust me!" (King Michele): "That is not all I care about. I care about you" (Queen Cara): "If you cared about me, you would've chosen me instead of your parents wishes. So, refrain from uttering further bullshit. I already take you for an imbecile. Don't let me take you for a clown as well" She then proceeded to tell him what she knew of the current investigation on Riley Warp's whereabouts. That she wanted to help bring down this organization as they are harming innocent people in the attempt to build an army. What they would be planning to do with the army is something catastrophic if they are willing to go to those lengths to do it. They probably were going to use the Queen and King Michele as blood bags to pump out royal blood for their operations. Luckily, Brent Baxter never had that opportunity and never will. He was simply one of her followers and not the leader nor the one in charge of the organization. She says that she believes his siblings are either there being used as blood bags or imprisoned because they would not comply. If they really need royal blood, they would have used them for it. Unless they had another source, then they most likely would have killed them without a second thought. King Michele tells Queen Cara that he wishes things could be different and that he could protect her. He lost that power to be able to protect her when he gave her up for a title. The only reason she wants to bring down the organization is to protect her people and save his siblings. Other than that, he was nothing more than just a painful memory. She ran off in tears and it felt like her chest was so heavy that it could break off every one of her bones and smash them to pieces from the inside out. Then as she was fighting for air outside on the balcony, her heart was beating so fast that it ached and her hands clutched her chest. A hand softly touched her shoulder and she felt this feeling of calm. Suddenly her heart calmed down and it felt like she could breathe again. (Queen Cara): "The people of Sortis are lucky to have you as their King. You're really good at that" (King Sebastian): "We are known for our healing capabilities. You were having a panic attack. I used a healing spell to calm your nerve reactions and thereby relax your heart rate back to normal. Not the first time, remember?" That is true. It was not the first time that he healed her from a panic attack. This is why she did not flinch or freak out when she felt his hand on her shoulder. She could feel from the warmth that he was doing his spell as he usually does. It's tricky to learn healing magic but he had been teaching her. It was humbling to be a student and not the master, but she was grateful for how patient he was in letting her learn the movements on her own time.
