The weekend passed like a swift cool breeze, wonderful yet short-lived.

Then Monday arrived, a nightmare for both adults who need to go to work and kids who need to get their education as well.

Though someone in particular has taken a day off and they are in agony at this decision forced upon them. No kid would ever be upset at a day off, especially if it's just another boring school day.

So why?

Because it's Shen Xiao.

Turns out- the medicine had worked but temporarily and as soon as he got back home from his first shift on Sunday, his temperature shot up again and his legs began to hurt from the multiple walks he had to do.

Of course, Shen Li noticed his disheveled self and the sweat all over his face. When she touched his forehead, he was burning up and immediately started scolding him.

"(Xiao, you're sick and you hid it from me again!)"

"(I'm fine, mother. Just...tired.)" He said as if it wasn't difficult for him to say anything while leaning on one side and breathing heavily from how hot it felt.

"(No, you're not! Now go to bed and you're not going to your job or school tomorrow!)"

She pushed him gently into his bedroom and onto his bed, in which he struggled to get up but couldn't.

"(Wait here, I'm going to cook lunch today and you will finish it all!)" Shen Li was deeply upsetted by him this time, but he's not mad at her at all.

He knows she's worried for him.

'I've made her worry again. I have quite a hand in shortening her lifespan, don't I?' His hands clench at the thought, he doesn't want that, but it's hard to listen to her when he has to do these things for their survival.

"(But-)" He didn't sound so convincing as he kept coughing in between sentences. Seeing this, Shen Li's heart felt worse. "(I'm fine reall-)"

His hand stretched out to grab her hand when he saw her so upset at his secretive behavior.

"(Is...your mother really that useless to you, Xiao'er?That I can't do anything for us?)" His hand stopped mid-air before it touched her and was left wide eyed.

Is this how she feels when he acts so stubborn?

'That's not it... that's not it at all.'
