~*3rd Person/Author's POV*~
There was only a couple days left before the week long conference meeting in Qishan. There is a weeks of meetings and discussions, but it all started with a banquet for the sects to meet and mingle, and the archery competition is the main event at the end of the conference. If it weren't for the competition, Wangji would not have attended but this competition is a representation of the sect and he was the second master. He has to make an appearance. Wei Wuxian, being his husband, had to also attend due to his marriage.
It would also be completely disrespectful for any important prominent figure to miss this one conference meeting. Wen Ruohan, the current chief cultivator, did not like those who opposed him. If someone of significant did not attend, it would be bed as Wen Ruohan would send for an inquiry later. It could result into a conflict that no one wanted. With the impending war with the Wen Sect, it was best not to infuriate them more.
Wangji and Wuxian had been training everyday since they returned from Baoshan's. The sect elders and Lan Qiren were made aware of the duo's abilities. It has been centuries since there was such a duo and despite the Yin master being the one who gets more of the arrogant unpleasantries, they were happy the duo was a representative to the Lan Sect.
They also couldn't shove Wuxian aside as he was protected Wangji, and the law within the sect that a bonded pair is untouchable. They also didn't want to anger the immortal relative that helped them gain their immortality. Disrespecting her was only going to be a person's doom.
That being said, Wuxian could train with Wangji. The two had a set time every evening as it was good for Wuxian to test out his Yin abilities. As Wuxian called upon corpses that heed his orders, Wangji was the one who could also help maintain Wuxian's abilities and make sure that in the end, the corpses used were put to rest.
There was also the use of the energy itself. Wuxian summoned some resentful energy and in a dark mist it flows out of his pours. Wangji did the same thing and his energy was a little blue to almost white mist that too, flowed from his pours. The targets were set up around the field, and with the two energies working together, the damage done was very severe. Wuxian alone had a strong impact, same with Wangji, but together it created a huge impact that made the field rumble.
The first time the energies merged, it was like a loud explosion went off a huge crater was left behind. It gained a lot of attention, and many people went to investigate. Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen were able to disband the other people before confronting them.
"What happened?" Lan Qiren questioned.
"Ugh, our energies together created that," Wuxian answered while pointing at the large crater in the ground, "we didn't realize this would happen when the two clashed abruptly."
The to older men sighed, "as long as you two are okay," Xichen said.
"We are," Wangji assured them, "we apologize for the disturbance. We will be more careful."
"Learning to balance the two energies is going to take some time," Lan Qiren said, "do not overdo it...ugh, how do we fix this problem?"
Wangji and Wuxian examined the crater. Immortals have common abilities aside from their own unique abilities. One of the common abilities was the manipulation of the elements. The two worked together to use the earth element to fill in the crater and it soon looked as if it never happened.
"You can also do that?" Xichen asked.
"Baoshan told us that immortals have common abilities and their unique individual abilities," Wuxian told them, "manipulating the elements is one of the common ones."
"I say you two have practiced enough for now. The conference is only a couple days away. We will be leaving tomorrow morning for Qishan and settle in at the inn we have reserved for the sect," Xichen said.
"Alright, we will rest for now then," Wangji said, "did our robes for the competition arrive?"
"They have, I had the keeper bring them to your Jingshi. You can take care of them when you head back to your residence," Xichen said.
With that, they split ways. Wangji and Wuxian went to the Jingshi and cleaned up after a long couple hours of training. As it was later that evening, Wangji had dinner brought over. After the two ate, they took care of their robes and gathered what they needed for the conference. Everything was in a Qiankun bag so it was all packed and put aside for the morning.
"Lan Zhan?" Wuxian asked as he sat on the bed.
Wangji was currently at the table drinking tea and reading a book, "Hmm?" He put the book aside to focus on his husband.
"I am a bit afraid of what is to come," Wuxian voiced out.
Wangji furrowed his brows, "why?"
"I can feel pain now, and we are going to be in the same place as the Jiangs for an entire week. I don't know what to do or how to feel," Wuxian told him.
Wangji took care of the tea and then sat down beside Wuxian on the bed, "you are an amazing fighter, and I will not let anything happen to you," Wangji assured him, "never leave my side during the conference. You are my husband so you are to stay by me anyway."
Wuxian nodded, "I know, I am just nervous. The last time I was around any of the Jiang's, they denied what they did to me. They won't admit it either."
"We have evidence, as you have scars left behind to show for it," Wangji said, "we also have witnesses who are willing to testify against them."
Wuxian climbed onto Wangji's lap for more comfort, "you make me feel safe. I know I have the ability to destroy a sect but I'm not that kind of person. I'm just afraid of what others might do or think. I don't want my bad past to fall on you."
"You have nothing to worry about," Wangji told him, "Shufu and Xiongzhang will also be there. They will not let anything happen either. They will help protect you."
Wuxian snuggled more into Wangji just to help him feel better. The way Wangji hold him and comforts him, makes him feel so safe. Wuxian didn't know what to expect now but he was just glad he had Wangji and he was not going to leave his side.
