Sunoo stood in middle of the airbnd, the air inside seemed to thicken as the horrifying news played on the screen. His breath grew shallow, the blue hue from the TV casting a cold glow over his tense form. The Kang family’s name-Yeju’s father, kept echoing in his mind louder than the words of the reporter. The weight of the revelation pressed down on his chest suffocating him as each disturbing detail unraveled. Exploitation, trafficking, coercion—it was revolting. And the worst part? Heeseung was connected to it all.
His body moved before his mind could catch up. The fury, betrayal and confusion burned hotter than the icy air that swept into the house as he yanked open the door. The snowstorm outside raged with snowflakes blowing into the warmth of his space but Sunoo hardly noticed. His focus zeroed in on the figure waiting outside—Heeseung.
He stood just a few feet away, his figure barely visible through the snowstorm. His dark coat was dusted with snowflakes, his hair damp from the relentless flakes swirling around him. His hands were tucked into his pockets but the moment the door creaked open, his head turned, eyes locking onto Sunoo with a heavy gaze.
There was no mistaking—Heeseung knew.
He was standing still almost like he had been expecting this confrontation. The moment Sunoo stepped into the doorway, Heeseung’s head turned toward him and for a fleeting second there was hesitation in his eyes. A look that said he knew exactly why Sunoo was opening the door.
He could already read the fury burning in Sunoo’s expression, the storm of emotions that had nothing to do with the weather outside.
But Heeseung didn’t falter for long. He took a breath squaring his shoulders as he started walking toward the house, his each step slow, as if he was preparing himself for the inevitable storm that would come from Sunoo. He stopped just at the threshold, still outside while Sunoo stood in the doorway.
It felt like they were standing in two different worlds - Heeseung in the cold, harsh snow and Sunoo within the warmth of the house. Yet they were so close, the heat from Sunoo’s home brushing against Heeseung’s face while the biting chill seeped into Sunoo’s skin.
Heeseung’s eyes never left Sunoo’s face, reading every ounce of fury, hurt, and betrayal etched into his features. He knew the reason. The truth had finally caught up with him.
Sunoo’s chest heaved as he struggled to contain the raging emotions boiling within him but he couldn’t keep it in for long. His voice came out low but dripping with venom. “What’s this?” His tone cut through the wind like a blade. “What’s going on with the Kang’s and you?”
Heeseung’s lips parted slightly, his breath misting in the cold air and before he could respond Sunoo’s fury ignited further pushing him to the edge. His voice rose with each accusation. “Isn’t Kang Jun-Seok your father-in-law? Or is that just some sick joke now?”
Heeseung didn’t flinch but his face tightened slightly at the accusation. He had expected this but now that it was happening, the weight of it all was heavier than he thought. He took a deep breath, his expression pained as he met Sunoo’s gaze.
“It’s not what you think, kitten.” Heeseung said softly, trying to bridge the gap between them. “I was going to tell you. I didn’t want to drag you into this but I need you to understand—”
“Understand?” Sunoo cut him off, his voice rising, his hands gripping the door tighter as his eyes burned with anger. “Understand that your fiancée’s father has been exploiting people, forcing them into adult videos and trafficking drugs while you were tied to them? How long have you known this?”
