The warm, inviting scent of freshly cooked food filled the cozy apartment, swirling through every corner like a silent celebration of the evening Sunoo had planned. On the dining table, dishes were meticulously arranged with a vibrant array of colors and textures, each one reflecting his thoughtfulness and care.
His cooking had improved over time, something Heeseung often teased him about but he knew tonight's dinner was special. He could almost see his boyfriend's face lighting up at the sight of his favorite dishes spread out waiting for him.
Standing at the kitchen counter, Sunoo focused on the final touch-a pot of soup he was stirring with gentle, precise motions. He leaned in close, letting the steam rise and fill his senses with the deep, comforting aroma of the new recipe he was trying. The smell brought a soft smile to his lips as he thought about his boyfriends reaction. The soup would be the last addition to the table, a warm and familiar flavor to complete the meal.
Sunoo's heart swelled with contentment. He thought back to how things had changed over the past months. "And by the way, we moved back to my apartment a few months ago." he mused to himself, remembering all the adjustments they'd made.
His exams had finally ended, freeing him from the endless stress that kept him awake at night and winter's chill was beginning to fade, making way for the gentler warmth of spring. It was as if the world outside mirrored his own life-a life that was finally falling into place. Living with Heeseung had brought a calm he hadn't known before, a happiness he now cherish deeply.
Heeseung had been very helpful past these months, he had been taking care of everything, even the slightest thing that could worry Sunoo. Moving back and forth is hassle but the day he came into his apartment, he'd expected to be greeted by boxes and clutter, an overwhelming mess. But instead, he found their belongings neatly organized, everything in its place as though Heeseung had woven his gentle touch into every corner.
The memory brought a soft chuckle to Sunoo's lips. That night, as a thank-you, he had made Heeseung's favorite dinner-a meal that filled them with laughter and warmth. They had shared stories, laughter, and even a call with Heeseung's mother, who had been thrilled to hear from Sunoo.
He had apologized for not attending her anniversary celebration, though she brushed it off, laughing and assuring him that his happiness with Heeseung was more than enough for her.
They had ended up talking for nearly an hour. She was kind and welcoming, filling him in on endearing tales from Heeseung's childhood. He remembered how her laughter echoed through the phone as she recounted stories, each detail painting an image of a young, mischievous Heeseung that Sunoo couldn't quite imagine.
Every time he reacted, her laughter grew warmer and Heeseung seated beside him-watched with a fond, amused smile though he eventually reached over snatching the phone to say, "Okay, mom, you should sleep. Bye." Before Sunoo knew it, the call had ended leaving him momentarily stunned by older's playful impatience.
The sound of the lock turning pulled Sunoo back to the present. He turned, just in time to see his boyfriend stepping inside, the cool evening air trailing in with him. Their eyes met and Heeseung's tired expression softened into a warm smile. Dropping his things, he moved toward him, leaning in to greet smaller with a quick, familiar peck while Sunoo's fingers grazed the hem of older's jacket as if reluctant to pull away.
"Welcome home." Sunoo greeted him, his own smile mirroring Heeseung's. "How was your day?" There was a subtle sparkle in his eyes, his excitement to share dinner evident in every part of his posture.
"It was good." Heeseung replied, though a playful pout tugged at his lips as he shrugged off his jacket with a dramatic sigh. He slouched slightly, shoulders dropping as though something weighed heavily on his mind. The exaggerated gesture made Sunoo tilt his head, brow arching in curiosity.
