It was Christmas Eve and snow was drifting lazily outside, blanketing everything in a soft white glow. The house was warmly lit, with twinkling lights reflecting off garlands and ornaments that Sunoo had spent hours setting up to perfection.
The aroma of cinnamon and pine filled the room, creating a cozy atmosphere that felt like something out of a holiday dream. Sunoo looked around, his heart pounding as he adjusted a tiny velvet box on Heeseung's nightstand, tucking it in among the wrapped gifts their families had sent.
Each was carefully labeled and stacked, with thoughtful messages from their families-even down to a handwritten card from Sunoo's grandmother wishing them "a Christmas full of love." Heeseung hadn't yet noticed that last, most important gift among the others.
Taking a deep breath, Sunoo pulled out his phone and sent Heeseung a quick text. "Come home soon. It's freezing without you here."
Minutes later, the door creaked open and Heeseung stepped inside, dusting snow from his hair and shoulders. His eyes widened in awe as he took in the decorations and gifts.
"You did all this?" he asked, his voice filled with admiration, his gaze sweeping over every detail and the smaller shrugged, trying to play it cool. "I couldn't let you come home to an un-festive mess, could I?" he said, flashing a teasing smile.
Heeseung approached him, arms opening and Sunoo sank into his embrace, his face warm against his boyfriend's shoulder. They stayed like that for a long moment, Heeseung's steady heartbeat against his ear calming the anxious thoughts that had been racing all evening.
"Kitten... it's perfect. Thank you." Heeseung murmured pressing a gentle kiss to Sunoo's hair.
When they finally parted, Heeseung began noticing the gifts, each thoughtfully wrapped and stacked around the living room and bedroom. His eyes landed on a smaller box atop his nightstand.
"Now what's this?" he asked, picking up the velvet box and looking at smaller with a raised brow.
Sunoo's heart skipped a beat. He'd rehearsed this moment a hundred times, yet his words felt tangled up inside him. He took a shaky breath and put on his best sassy grin. "Well, what do you think it is? If you can't guess, I might have to take it back."
"Guess?" Heeseung gave him a soft, knowing look as he slowly opened the box, first his eye flew open in surprise but soon it softened when the realisation sinked in and all he could do was stare, his breath catching.
Sunoo looked at him anxiously, wondering if this way to surprise him was good or not? Hesitantly he reached out to take older's hand, his heart thumping as he finally found the words.
"Look, I... I don't have some grand speech or perfectly rehearsed lines, but I do know one thing-I want you by my side, always." he said, the playful edge in his voice melting into something softer. "So... will you marry me?"
