WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!
WHY AM I STUCK IN THIS MESS OUT OF NOWHERE?!
It was supposed to be a normal day for me. I came back from work, played with my baby—my sweet five-year-old, Kim Haru, my little Ru-ru. Life was simple, uneventful... until it wasn’t.
Now, here I am, standing in the middle of my living room, surrounded by men in black suits. Mafia men. Oh yeah, you heard that right. Mafia lord level. And all thanks to my useless, cowardly ex-boyfriend who left me in a pit of debt so deep, I didn’t even know it existed until Jeon Jungkook, the actual mafia lord, showed up at my front door with a smile that said, I own your soul now.
I glance down at Ru-ru, clinging to my leg, his big innocent eyes staring at the men like they were action figures in a movie. Meanwhile, I’m standing here, my heart pounding, my head spinning with thoughts like How do I get out of this? and What the hell is happening?
I glare at them with all the fire I can muster, which honestly feels pretty weak considering they all look like they could buy my entire neighborhood. The leader, Jeon Jungkook, is way too handsome for someone who could probably have me "taken care of" with a snap of his fingers. He’s wearing a black suit with black sunglasses, because why not? The sun isn’t even out—just extra mafia, I guess.
My house doesn’t match him at all. Too small, too messy. I mean, there’s a half-eaten sandwich on the table and crayon drawings scattered on the floor. If this was some bad sitcom, this is where the laugh track would play.
One of his men finally speaks, his deep voice rumbling through the room. "Your boyfriend borrowed a large sum of money from us and ran away. We can’t find him anywhere, so until we do, as his only family, it’s your responsibility to pay it off."
Huh?! Excuse me?!
My mind is spinning so fast I think I’m going to pass out. "What?! No way! Why should I pay for that useless jerk?! I don’t have anything to do with him!"
This has to be a joke. There’s no way I’m about to get dragged into some mafia debt because of a guy I kicked out months ago!
Before I can process any of this, Jeon Jungkook, who had been silently watching me this whole time, finally speaks. His voice is smooth but cold, and his eyes flick down to Ru-ru.
"If you can’t pay the debt, then why don’t you offer your son as compensation?"
What. The. Hell. Did. He. Just. Say?!
That’s it. I’ve officially had enough. My protective instincts kick in full throttle, and I feel my anger shoot through the roof.
"NO WAY! Listen, mister, I don’t care who you are, but don’t you dare even think about laying a finger on my son!" I snap, stepping in front of Ru-ru and glaring at him with everything I’ve got. "He’s mine, and no one’s taking him from me! Just—just give me time, okay? I’ll pay back your stupid money!"
Jungkook raises an eyebrow, clearly amused by my outburst. His lips twitch into a smirk, and I swear I see a hint of interest spark in his eyes.
"Time, huh?" He tilts his head, eyeing me up and down like he’s sizing me up for something—probably another one of his brilliant ideas. "Alright. I’ll give you some time. But don’t make me regret it."
I gulp, trying to keep my voice steady. "Deal."
Jungkook’s smirk grows wider, and I swear I hear him chuckle under his breath as he turns to leave. His men follow suit, the tension in the room slowly dissipating as they walk out the door, but not before Jungkook throws one last glance over his shoulder.
"One month, Seokjin. Don’t keep me waiting."
And just like that, they’re gone.
I collapse onto the couch, my heart still racing as Ru-ru climbs onto my lap, completely unaware of the danger we just barely avoided.
"Appa, that man was scary," he says, cuddling into me.
I nod, trying to calm my nerves. "Yeah, Ru-ru, he was... but don’t worry. Appa’s got this... I think."
One month? How was I supposed to pull off paying back a mafia lord in one month? As I glance down at my son, I know one thing for sure: no matter what happens, I’m not letting that Mafia lord...what was his name again? Oh yes, Jeon Jungkook or anyone else near my son. I just have to figure out how to survive this... without losing everything.

.Jin had worked tirelessly the entire month, taking on every part-time job he could find—cleaning, delivering, working late into the night—doing whatever it took to gather the money. But after weeks of barely sleeping, barely eating, and running himself ragged, he could only manage half of what he owed. He stared at the small pile of cash, feeling defeated, his head spinning. Before he knew it, the world went black, and he lost consciousness.
Haru, his four-year-old son, tugged on Jin’s shirt, his big eyes filled with confusion. "Appa... what happened? Wake up. Ru-ru is hungry..." His tiny voice echoed through the small, stuffy room, but Jin didn’t stir. Haru frowned, his stomach growling. He wanted his appa to make him something to eat, but he didn’t understand why Jin wouldn’t wake up.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, breaking Haru’s thoughts. His small eyes blinked, and with determination, he grabbed a nearby stool, stood on it, and reached for the doorknob. He opened the door to reveal none other than Jeon Jungkook, standing tall in his sharp suit, his usual stoic expression momentarily replaced with surprise as he saw the little boy staring up at him.
"Oh... Mr. Scary Man," Haru said, his voice innocent and unafraid, while his small hand gripped the doorknob.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow at the nickname, but a small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "Hey, little guy... where’s your pretty appa?" he asked, his deep voice softened for the child.
"Appa... there, there," Haru said, pointing towards the living room. "He fell asleep." Without hesitation, Haru pulled Jungkook inside, his tiny hand grabbing the mafia lord's much larger one.
Jungkook allowed himself to be led inside, and his eyes immediately fell on the sight of Jin, collapsed on the couch, pale and unmoving. The room was hot, stuffy, and it was clear that Jin had pushed himself beyond his limits. Jungkook's brow furrowed slightly, and despite himself, concern flickered in his chest. He could tell Jin had been under intense pressure, working non-stop in the sweltering heat, and had simply worn himself out.
"What happened to Appa?" Haru asked again, his little voice tinged with worry as he looked up at Jungkook.
Jungkook knelt down beside Jin, his smirk fading into something more unreadable. He reached out, his fingers gently brushing away a strand of hair from Jin’s damp forehead. The mafia lord wasn’t one to show emotions, especially not in situations like this, but seeing Jin like this stirred something in him.
"He’s just really tired, kid," Jungkook murmured, his voice quieter than usual. "He worked too hard."
Haru blinked, his innocent eyes wide. "Can you make Appa better?"
Jungkook glanced at the little boy, and for a moment, his heart softened. This wasn’t what he’d expected when he came here today. He’d come to remind Jin of the looming debt, to make sure he wasn’t running, but now...
"Yeah, Ru-ru," Jungkook finally said, standing up. "I’ll make sure your appa is okay."
As he looked down at Jin, unconscious and clearly overwhelmed by the weight of his struggles, Jungkook found himself feeling something he hadn’t expected—something far from the cold-hearted mafia lord he was supposed to be. Maybe, just maybe, there was more to this than just money... and more to Jin than just another debtor.
And that intrigued him more than anything.
