On Halloween, excitement fills the school as the drama teacher posts fliers for the annual musical, this year featuring Camp Rock. The Plastics rush to the board to secure their roles: Angel chooses Tess Tyler, Ashley opts for Peggy, Carolyn selects Ella, and Rose claims Mitchie. After signing up, the Plastics leave while more students continue to register for the musical. Eugene joins them, announcing his intention to audition for Barron, which leads to a gossip-filled conversation. In the student lounge, Betty, Heather, Kelly, and Marie discuss the musical, but tensions rise when Marie feels targeted by Kelly, prompting her to confront Kelly and walk away in frustration. Later, during the Camp Rock auditions, participants take their turns, with some landing roles while others do not. When it's Angel's turn, he is abruptly interrupted by the director, who points out that Tess Tyler is meant to be a female character. In response, Angel passionately argues about the importance of inclusivity in casting, insisting that he should be allowed to portray Tess. Ms. George enters the auditorium, where Angel informs her about the director's comments. Ms. George reassures Angel not to be concerned and proceeds to audition for the role of Connie Torres. Following the auditions, Ms. George and Director Kenny retreat to a private area, where they engage in a sexual encounter to ensure Angel's participation in the play. Meanwhile, the Plastics are conversing while the four core members observe. Martin, Joseph, and Ben stealthily approach, and Martin kisses Betty, prompting jealousy in Edward and Heather, who witness the moment. Joseph then approaches the Plastics and kisses Rose, leading Angel to suggest they find a more private setting. Director Kenny returns to announce the cast, assigning the role of Tess Tyler to Angel, which sparks a dispute with a girl named Kat. Frustrated, Kat storms out along with other students who were not selected. Later, Edward and Betty are seen walking home together, sharing a conversation that culminates in a kiss. Although Edward feels aroused, they both realize the timing is inappropriate, prompting Betty to leave. At Angel's house, the Plastics and Eugene are working on their homework, but Angel expresses her frustration, declaring history to be nonsense and voicing his disbelief in the subject. A discussion begins regarding the notion that history may be fabricated and deceptive. Bodyguard Jones enters, carrying five plates filled with sandwiches and crackers. The group takes their plates and settles onto Angel's bed, resuming their gossip about classmates. Angel introduces a theory suggesting that Martin is unfaithful to Betty with Heather. Carolyn then mentions a rumor about Martin's sexuality, to which Angel responds affirmatively, claiming that Martin attempted to engage with him. The friends are taken aback, and Eugene suggests they document this in the burn book. Rose seizes the burn book and writes, "Martin is a secretly gay fad." Meanwhile, Angel accesses his laptop to print out the Snapchat exchanges between himself and Martin, including some explicit images, which he adds to the burn book. Ashley captures photographs of everything, possibly for future leverage. Betty and Martin share a kiss, during which she envisions Edward, leading to an awkward moment when she inadvertently calls out Edward's name. Martin then departs for football practice, leaving Betty feeling guilty. Martin visits Heather's house to discuss his feelings and the recent events, but Heather dismisses him, sensing that her mother might be home. Consequently, he exits through the window. After getting into his car, Martin drives back home, takes a shower, and settles into bed while texting Heather. Their conversation turns humorous, leading him to send her an explicit photo, to which she responds with a revealing picture, believing he is a decent person. He wishes her good night before drifting off to sleep.
