yall thought that i was gonna end with a sad ending? you dumb dumbs. i hate sad endings so why would make a sad ending to my amazing story??? ofc not. i was just pranking you guys 🤪🤪

anyways this is the actual end to the story and it may be shorter than the other chapters.

------

It was strange to have a tail again. You'd grown accustomed to legs so much that you struggled to move the first few times of transforming back. It brought concern to your parents. They'd assumed you'd still be able to move like a siren, which was a reasonable assumption, so it was very concerning.

Your mother understood that you were upset that you had to leave the man ashore, but she didn't expect you to be so sad to the point where you'd forgotten to swim. Or maybe it was because you'd forgotten how to swim? But how? You were born underwater, you'd swam your whole life.

As you continued to grow further away from the shore, it became more and more obvious how upset you were. You lingered behind the group, your father having to stop and wait for you to catch up more times than he'd like. You general depressed aura brought the supposed to be happy mood down. The 'I don't want to go home' statement clearly wasn't just you being upset that you'd have to leave Leon.

Just reaching the borders of the tropical waters that surrounded Rohan, your father suddenly stopped, staring into the deep blue beyond. You and your mother stopped behind him, a confused expression crossing your faces.

"Harold?" Your mother said, approaching his side. "What's the matter, love?"

The man didn't say a word for a good long moment, continuing to stare off into the waters. When he finally turned around, he looked you dead in the eyes, the emotions on his face unreadable.

"Go back." His voice sounded reluctant, like if he had finally given in to your incessant, childish nagging because he couldn't take it anymore.

Your eyes widened. "Father, what do you mean?" You asked, bamboozled.

"Go back!" He insisted, gesturing back the way they came. "Me and your mother both saw how heartbroken not only you were, but that human was, too."

"His name is Leon," you corrected, "and he's the new king of Rohan."

"Well, sure. You are my son, (y/n) (l/n), and I love you so very much. As much as I'd love to bring you back home with us, I fear our kingdom is no longer your home," he paused, his calm façade cracking slightly, "Rohan is. Thus, I mustn't let you come back with us. You belong on the surface with that Leon, so I'm allowing you to go where you truly feel at home."

Listening to your father's unsteady voice made you feel awful inside. He didn't really want you to leave him, but he was letting you, anyway. For that, you couldn't help but hug him tightly, knowing that this will be the last time you ever see your parents.

"Thank you, father, mother. I love you both, and I'll miss you." Your mother gave you a final kiss on the cheek before you turned back around and sped off back to the shore.

The king still stood on the sandy beach, gazing out onto the water, hoping to see any signs of your return. But, of course, there was none, and you didn't return. He would've called you back to him, but how would you have heard him from down there?

Memories of you flashed in his mind, missing you already and it'd barely been forty minutes. It was like a massive chunk had been taken out of him, a hole - no, a void - that'd formed where his heart was, and only you could've fixed it.

He turned to leave, but as he did, the sound of the water's surface breaking behind him stopped him from taking another step. The blonde man spun back around in an instant, hope flashing in his eyes. Was it you? Did you really come back?

As he realised what it was, the hope vanished almost immediately. It was just a dolphin - two dolphins. The two animal jumped in and out of the ocean harmoniously, singing songs to one another. Gosh, he wished he could something like that with you...

Leon began walking back towards La Kuenoh with his tail between his legs and his heart squeezed into an orangey pulp. He couldn't believe his own idiocy would let him believe that you actually came back.

The sound of water breaking could be heard again as he walked away, but he didn't turn around this time. It's just the dolphins again, he told himself, (y/n) isn't coming back. Though his doubt started to crumble as he heard the faint sound of running on sand. Still, he brushed it off and continued walking.

Only did he stop when he heard you. Calling out his name. Slowly, he looked back at the sandy dunes. As he made eye contact with a blurry figure charging at him, he felt it hug him, wrapping it's arms and legs around his body.

"Leon!" He heard it say to him.

He couldn't believe it. "(y/n)?" He whispered, his hands snaking around the figure's lower back. "(y/n)!"

The king held you tight, spinning you around in joy. You both laughed and giggled in happiness, both so glad that you wouldn't have to be apart. He eventually put you down, closing the distance between you with a loving kiss.

"(y/n)," he breathed after the kiss finished, "you came back. Why'd you come back? I thought you had no choice."

"Father let me stay! He let me stay here with you. He knew I belonged with you." You grinned, overstimulated from the excitement of staying with Leon forever.

"Well, I'm certainly glad he did." Leon's voice softened, looking you in the eyes.

"Me too."

"I love you, (y/n)."

"I love you, too, Leon."
