Vanilla smiled brightly as he was in a little room with about 10 other kids. His mother was next to him looking down at her phone.
"Vanilla, dear. You're gonna blow all of your energy if you keep on fidgeting like that." She giggled
"I'm sorry Mama. I'm just so happy to be doing this!" He told her
One by one kids were called to audition for a small role in a commercial. Vanilla was nervous and it only grew as some kids came out crying saying that it was too hard. Even some parents started to pull their kids out while others yelled at the staff. Finally it was Vanilla's turn.
He walked in with his mother and he only had to say a few lines while holding an umbrella. He was handed the prop and took a breath before starting.
"Why would I want to walk in the rain with a boring umbrella when I can have the new rocking umbrella. I can dance in the rain and sing as I do so." Vanilla spoke, he had rehearsed these lines over and over again, he could even do them in his sleep
When he was done he closed the umbrella and bowed thanking them for giving him the opportunity to try out for the commercial. Both of them were led out and were told to take a seat back in the waiting area. A little bit later the judges or the people that were in charge of the commercial came out with papers and gave some to a few parents, Vanilla's mother was one of them.
On the way home Vanilla frowned and his mother noticed, "What's wrong hun?"
"I did a bad job didn't I. I'm sorry." He was about to cry when he mom giggled
"On honey, no. You did a wonderful job. The paper is a form of consent. You got the part. This is just letting us know that they will be calling us here and there for more commercials or for even bigger parts." His mother reassured him
Vanilla wiped his eyes and smiled, "Okay!"
When they got home his mother filled out the form and sent it off. Vanilla ran off to play with his cousins that were living with him and his mom until further notice.
"How did it go?" One of them asked
"It was easy, we got a form of consent in the end. So Mama said that I could do it again if I wanted to." Vanilla explained to them
The two looked at each other, they hated how easy it was for him to be so successful. It wasn't even a guaranteed spot in the commercial or any roles. It was just a maybe. They still hated him.
"You poor thing." The other cousin said hugging Vanilla
"What?" Vanilla was confused
"Didn't you know. Child stars like you often get touched and pressured into roles. And if you do a bad job then they'll beat you until you can't walk."
"That's not true!"
The first cousin nods, "Oh it is. And if you become famous no one will want to be your friend. What's worse is that if you do one little thing wrong they'll make it into a big deal!"
Vanilla was getting scared, terrified even. He ran out of the room crying. Of course his mother comforted him and told him that she won't let anything like that happen. Of course his cousins were punished for scaring him and telling him such lies.
...
Vanilla was starting to get more and more popular. He was assigned roles in movies and more commercials. They even had him sale shampoo and perfume as well on account of his natural scent. His mom and dad were proud of him, they never pressured him into doing something he didn't want to do.
His mom called him one day during a photo shoot and told him that they had been offered to help out another famous star. Someone named Lavender. Vanilla was so excited to meet someone so famous and well known. He idolized him and saw him as someone that was simply untouchable.
They went to the recording studio as quickly as possible. As Vanilla stared at the purple cat he realized something. They were the same. They were both kids and was living the dream. Lavender was awfully shy, but Vanilla was as well, but not to the same extent.
The two boys talked and everyone saw how well they were together. Lavender and Vanilla! What could go wrong?!
A lot can go wrong, so very fast.
After completing the album that Lavender had trouble on the two asked their parents if they could go out and eat. Vanilla's parents agreed right away and smiled happily, while Lavender's parents glared at him and made him promise to work harder afterwards.
They all went to a nice fancy restaurant and had a lovely time. The two boys talked about how they wanted to do more stuff together. After eating the two took a picture together. Both of them smiling and laughing. They promised to hang out again and work on something else together.
They kept their promise. They made a commercial together, their last one.
Lavender moved away to start his role in a movie. Meanwhile Vanilla couldn't take the path of stardom and started to have panic attacks when things got too hard or difficult. Directors would yell at him and tell him that he was doing everything wrong. He couldn't keep up.
"Mom, Dad... I want to quit." Vanilla told him parents one night during dinner
"Is there a reason as to why?" His dad asked him
"I don't like it anymore. Everyone is so mean to me and I can't go anywhere by myself. Kids at school hate me! And worse of all random people sniff me just to see if I really do smell like vanilla." He was so close to crying
His mom passed him a napkin, "You don't have to continue. Just let us know if you wanna go back to showbiz or if you wanna do anything else."
Vanilla smiled, "Thank you."
His parents were so sweet and understanding. Even when he told them that he was planning on moving away. They helped him pack up and told him that he was welcome to come back home at anytime.
Sure he misses his parents, but he made a lot of friends as well.
And that is the story of Vanilla.
