After DogDay finished his story he realized that both Kicken and Bubba were paying attention, practically hanging onto the edge of their metaphorical seats.
"So was that a true story or one that you made up?" Kicken asked DogDay
The canine shrugged, "I don't know. I mean I have a feeling that it's true, but at the same time, I don't."
CatNap had finally let go of DogDay and stretched for a moment before curling up again. DogDay took this moment to get free and once he was out of CatNap's grasp he sighed and shook his fur loose.
"I feel like it's a true story. I mean it was way too detailed for it to be fake. You even mentioned CatNap's celebrity name." Kicken said relaxing as he leaned up against Bubba
The elephant pulled Kicken away and checked on his condition, "You can sleep yourself if you want to."
Kicken gave Bubba a thumbs up and practically flopped onto his lap and fell asleep a little too quickly.
DogDay chuckled, "Someone has it bad."
"You're one to talk." Bubba rolled his eyes
"Oh I know I have it bad for my kitty. Everyone knows, even CatNap knows... We just have to confess or it might just be an unspoken thing that will just be known."
"That's dangerous you know. To start dating without either of you actually asking the other one out. A lot of things can go wrong with those kinds of relationships." Bubba explained
"I know, I was just saying. CatNap and I know that we both have a crush on each other. But it seems that Kicken has a crush on you."
Bubba looked down at the chicken that had his head resting on his lap. He was sound asleep and had a small smile on his beak.
"Well until there is more solid concrete evidence I won't say anything or do anything."
"That's fine by me."
...
The day was coming to a close and Bubba was starting to get worried about CatNap. The feline was still asleep. There hasn't been a single time that CatNap had woken up for food, water, or even to use the bathroom. Sure Kicken had woken up and went to the bathroom and even asked for water, but not CatNap.
"Are you sure he isn't dead?" Bubba asked DogDay
"I'm sure. CatNap is still alive and well. He's been reacting to our conversations."
"How can you tell?"
"His ears would twitch or his tail would move a little differently. I would even see his body tense up a little before relaxing. Yeah he's asleep, but he's been listening." DogDay explained
"So he knows about your crush on him?"
"Like I said, he knows. Everyone knows."
They both watched as CatNap stretched and opened one eye and asked, "What time is it?" His speech was extremely slurred
"It's a little past 9pm." DogDay told him looking at the clock in the room, but when he turned back to CatNap the feline was asleep once again. Only this time he wasn't curled up like usual, he had his paws tucked in under himself. He looked like a loaf of bread.
"Does this count as him waking up or adjusting in his sleep?" Bubba asked as Kicken shivered a bit in his sleep
"Put it down as adjusting. I don't think he realized that he woke up and asked me something." DogDay yawned as he grabbed one of CatNap's many many blankets and handed one to Kicken and Bubba, "Get some sleep."
"Are you sure that it's okay for us to sleep here?" Bubba asked
"The experiment isn't done and I don't think you wanna wake up Kicken. Besides this is an excuse for you to stare at him and not seem like a creep." DogDay told him
He didn't hear any complaints from Bubba after that. DogDay laid down next to CatNap and got comfortable under the blankets with the feline.
...
Morning came and Kicken was the first to wake up. He had a small headache, but it wasn't anything too serious. He left a note for Bubba and DogDay letting them know that he was heading back to his house, but he'll be back.
He slowly made his way out of CatNap's house and down to his own. Once he reached his house he looked around as if he expected something to be different.
He took a shower and as he was drying his feathers his phone rang. He never uses it much since he doesn't have a reason to call anyone. And well no one calls him.
His grandma suggested that he have one when he left and moved all the way to the neighborhood. He looked at the number and his heart sank. Why are they calling him?
He reluctantly answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Finally. Do you realize how long we've been calling this stupid number?!" the woman on the line screamed at him
His head throbbed in pain, "Sorry. I was at a friend's house getting treated for a concussion."
"Excuses. Anyways we need you to move back home."
Kicken tensed up, "May I ask why?"
"You don't need to know the details. Just know that you are welcomed back, so come home already." The woman's tone of voice changed to sound sweet and innocent
Kicken knew better then to drop everything and run back home, "Mother, I'm going to have to refuse. I'm in no condition to travel also I know that you and dad are just going to use me like always."
His mother growled, "You ungrateful-! You know what, I don't care! Stay there at that dump! I'll just tell your sister that you hate her and refuse to see her!"
Kicken sighed, "She'll understand. Goodbye."
He hung up the phone and felt like he could breathe. He collapsed onto his knees as tears rolled down his face. He covered his beak to keep his cries and sobs down, something that he was so used to doing growing up in that hellhole. His sister was the one that helped him move in the first place. She knows that he doesn't hate her. She told him to never return and she had a good reason to say that.
Kicken had eventually calmed down and made sure that he didn't look like he had been crying. He walked back to CatNap's place.
His headache was now even worse then before.
