Soft Heart, Cruel World

My heart was soft, but life was cruel,
I learned too young, this world’s no school.
I trusted once, but trust was pain,
Now all that’s left is loss and strain.

I hide behind a guarded wall,
Afraid to let my heart stand tall.
But in this shell, I break apart,
A shattered soul, a shattered heart.
