Not so Different

Chapter 6: Flashbacks

Baron froze. The memories flooded back into his brain. The memories of his mother.

12 years ago, in the kingdom of Salhai. Seven year old Baron plays with his small puppy Magi in his room before hearing a crash. Magi barks.

"Shh, girl. What do you think that noise was?" Baron talks to Magi, a bit afraid.

With his bedroom plushie, he leaves Magi and begins to walk downstairs slowly. His eyes shoot up as he sees a few guards break in.

Human guards.

One of them looks around before spotting the child.

"There!" The guard yells and points

Baron gasps and runs back upstairs, locking himself in his room, Magi barks, overwhelmed.

It was no use, the humans broke in and caught him dragging him by his hair and mumbling something about ending the Fae bloodline once getting rid of Baron.

"Let go!! Let go of me!!" Baron cries as they drag him down to the exit.

"Quiet, prick!" Another guard scolds. Magi follows them and barks, biting one of the soilders ankles. They kick the puppy away.

"Magi!!" Baron calls out as Magi whines.

Suddenly a blue aura chokes the guard holding Baron, causing Baron to fall with an "oof!"

His mother, the queen stands in front of him, protecting Baron. The queen was a beautiful woman. A strong and loving Fae.

"Baron, listen to me. You need to run away from here as fast as you can. Your father will come back for you." She says, gritting her teeth, not taking her eyes off the struggling soldiers.

"W-what? No, mom I can't leave you!"

"Baron, go!!" She begs, her voice shaky.

Baron hesitates but gets up, picks Magi up and runs away, never looking back before hearing the bloodcurdling scream of his dear mother. Tears run down his face but he doesn't stop. Not for a second.

Now, Baron pulls away quickly before their lips touch, taking a few steps back. What the hell was he thinking? Kissing a human?

Serene looks a bit worried and confused. Why didn't he kiss her? Why did he stop?

Barons eyes show signs of...hurt. He stumbles onto a table, holding himself up with one hand.

"Baron? Are you okay-"

"SHUT UP!" Baron yells.

Serene flinches, shutting her mouth.

"Just...stay away. Stay away from me."

"...did I do something wrong?" Serene asks innocently, fidgeting with her fingers

"YES! you did! Your kind always does!" Baron snaps, looking up at her. All he sees is the guards. The human guards that killed his mother. He closes his eyes and looks down, holding his head, dizzily.

Serene moves a little closer to check up on him before Baron holds his hand out as if to say 'just stop. don't come any closer.' Baron sighs and groans slightly. He leans off the table and begins to leave.

"B-baron..." Serene calls quietly, reaching her hand out, but Baron storms out. Serene looks at her hands. They were just dancing, gliding across the ballroom. Did she really do something wrong? Serene touches her fair pink lips.

And they almost...

She sighs and shakes her head, picking up her dress and leaving as well.

Little did they know, Arthur was behind a nearby door, watching and listening to everything. He lets out a small "hm." He gently grips the sword on his hip and leaves the ballroom as well.
