Not so Different

Chapter 8: Don't leave me

Baron freezes, not taking his eyes off her for a second. She wasn't... breathing. Barons pupils grow big. He takes one step closer before stumbling to the ground and letting out a loud, hurt wail. He holds Magi to his chest while yelling over and over;

"don't leave me, Magi, don't leave me..."

Tears run down Barons face as Magi doesn't move at all. Her blood spills down his tunic as he holds her closer. He doesn't stop wailing in pain.

"It was the humans. There's no other explanation. I won't let them get away with this." Baron mumbles

His tears stream down his cheeks and onto Magi's cold head. He kisses her once soft fuzzy head. A few seconds later, the Fae guards heard his yelling and rush upstairs to see him holding Magi tightly, not caring that he's getting all dirty. That was the least of his problems.

The Fae soldiers try to comfort him as they wait for the king to come see what all the commotion is.

Baron doesn't hear a thing. At this point he stopped yelling painfully and just stared at Magi blankly, holding her tightly still. The tears still running down his face.

His father eventually arrives. Shocked, he becomes pale and crouches down in front of Baron. He sighs sadly before looking away. Even the king couldn't bear the sight of Magi. After all, Magi was a gift from the late queen.

"Son..."

"They did this..." Baron manages to choke out

"We don't know that-" the king says softly

"I KNOW THEY DID!" he yells

"I KNOW THEY TOOK HER! THEY DID IT TO HER, THEY HURT HER..." Baron wails again.

"Baron, you need to let her go." A single tear runs down his fathers cheek.

"No...no...i can't leave her... she'll come back...Magi will come back...she will..." Baron mutters squeezing her tighter. Her blood spilling to the floor now.

"Baron she's gone." The king sucks in a breath.

Baron shakes his head, constantly mumbling "No. No. No."

The guards try pull the creature away, not being able to until Barons grip on her loosened. They took Magi to bury her.

Baron stares blankly at the ground before looking up at his father, he was all covered in her blood. The king looks at his son before hugging him.

Baron hugs him tighter, letting out the feelings he was trying his hardest to keep in.

A few days pass. During these days Baron wakes up from his bed, and looks to his side. Where Magi always slept. She wasn't there. Barons colorful blue eyes soon turn a deep, dark, empty blue whenever he thought of his dog.

The princess. Today he is to meet up with the princess again. That's the last person he wants to see. Any human.

...but he could confront her.

The carriage ride to Alora was silent. It was always a silent trip. But today was deadly silent. They eventually arrive again.

They have dinner. Baron didn't speak a word. Serene, from across the table, took note of this. She knew Baron was more of an introvert, but he was never this quiet. Soon, they dismiss the fiances, as usual.

They walk out of the great dining room, Baron, many steps ahead.

"...Baron?" Serene calls in her always curious tone.

"..." Baron doesn't respond but he stops walking.

Serene gets in front of him.

"Is everything alright?" She asks worried.

Baron stops looking straight ahead to the end of the hall, and slowly looks down at her.

'How innocent she acts.' Baron thinks. 'a beautiful innocent looking face. It aggravates me.'

Baron slowly shakes his head. His eyes empty.

"...I saw the king was a little quiet at dinner today too. Did something happen?"

"They killed her." Baron whispers

"What?" Serene couldn't quite catch that.

"THEY KILLED HER! NO, YOU KILLED HER!" Baron yells

Serene doesn't flinch, since she is used to his outbursts. She snaps a little.

"Baron, what are you talking about-"

"THEY KILLED MAGI." Baron finally spills, getting closer to her.

Serene does flinch at this statement. She covers her mouth with her hands, shocked.

"...no...how? W-who?"

"YOUR KIND. HUMANS. i know-...i know they did." Barons voice crumbles and he walks around her.

Still shocked, Serene freezes before following after him.

"Baron...Baron wait!" She grabs the back of his black tunic and he finally stops.

He turns to look at her, his eyes tearing up. "WHAT?"

She looks up at him, worried.

They look at each other for a few seconds until Serene unexpectedly hugged him. Wrapping her arms around him tightly.

Baron was shocked and froze. He was just about to push her away but he realized how much he needed this hug. He hesitates but melts into the hug, wrapping his arms around her tightly as well.

He really needed a hug from this human.
