12: Siddharth's Dilemma

Siddharth sits in his office late at night, staring out the window. His mind is restless, filled with thoughts of Avneet. It's been happening more and more lately, and it's starting to frustrate him.

Siddharth: (thinking to himself) What are you doing, Siddharth? She's your student. This is crossing a line.

He runs a hand through his hair, trying to push the thoughts away, but it's no use. The way Avneet challenges him, the way she's grown over the past few months-it's more than just academic admiration. He respects her, but there's something else there, something he can't quite define.

There's a knock at his office door, and Siddharth snaps out of his thoughts. It's his colleague, Professor Mehra,Rohan Mehra. Who pokes his head in.

Mehra: (grinning) Still burning the midnight oil, I see.

Siddharth forces a smile, though his thoughts are still elsewhere.

Siddharth: Just finishing up some work.

Rohan walks in, sitting down across from Siddharth's desk.

Rohan: (teasing) Or maybe you're thinking about one of your star students? I've heard Avneet Kaur's been quite the standout this year.

Siddharth tenses slightly, his jaw tightening. He forces a casual tone.

Siddharth: She's a good student. Works hard.

Rohan raises an eyebrow, noticing the way Siddharth's tone shifts.

Rohan: (curious) A little more than that, isn't she? You talk about her more than most students.

Siddharth's heart skips a beat, but he maintains his calm exterior.

Siddharth: She's talented. That's all.

Rohan chuckles, clearly not buying it.

Rohan: Well, just be careful. You know how these things can look, especially with students.

Siddharth doesn't respond, but Rohan's words stick with him. He knows there's a fine line, and he's dangerously close to crossing it. But the problem is, he's not sure he can stop himself.
